Okay, I admit I haven’t seen Avatar yet. Yeah, I know it’s now the second-highest grossing film in history. I’ve been busy!
So I am going to try to see it this weekend on an IMAX screen.
Out of curiosity, I’m I the only one who hasn’t seen it yet?

January 9, 2010 at 5:36 am #176544NessaParticipantI saw it in Spanish so I can’t really comment – I don’t think it had as good of an effect so my opinion doesn’t count.
January 9, 2010 at 1:59 pm #176545PolarBearNPRParticipantI wanna see it! I wanna see it! Work schedule keeps interfering though. Maybe tomorrow? Or more likely next weekend. Definitely in 3-D though!
January 9, 2010 at 7:24 pm #176535Jeff HesterKeymasterOne of my friends is trying to get a group to go see it next Thursday night, so I’ll probably hold off until then. No spoilers, in the meantime, please! 🙂
January 10, 2010 at 4:19 am #176537detn8rParticipantHow about, am I the only one who DOESN’T want to see it? Meh.. Daybreakers on the other hand… there’s a good movie!
January 10, 2010 at 10:48 am #176540sarahtownyMemberWe took the kids to see this a few weeks ago. My eldest son had been waiting six months for it to come out, so we near enough saw it on release date.
Although I did not think I would like it, how wrong I was. I thought the graphics were just amazing. The story line was interesting (not going to spoil it for you).
Just asked my other half what his view of the film was and he replied ‘amazing’. He is quite hard to please when it comes to films. So that just about sums it up 😉
I think if you saw this on dvd and had not been to the cinema to see it, you would kick yourself.
January 16, 2010 at 1:52 am #176536Jeff HesterKeymasterOkay, I finally saw Avatar last night on an IMAX screen and I have to agree — it WAS amazing! A beautiful story, well told.
As Sarah said, the graphics were astounding. I never thought twice about them being “graphics” — it seemed as real as the “real” stuff.
And I agree, this is a film you definitely want to see on the big screen, preferably on IMAX and in 3D.
January 16, 2010 at 3:01 am #176542princeGParticipantThere’s gonna be a second and a third movie as well, Cameron wanted to make a trilogy 😉
January 17, 2010 at 10:37 pm #176546PolarBearNPRParticipantOkay – I just returned from Avatar. Not to beat a dead horse, but yeah – amazing graphics (seen in 3D regular screen), interesting story, nice influences from a societal and an environmental standpoint, and more gaming-related scenes, settings and characters than I thought possible. Definitely my type of movie! My 14-year-old fell asleep during it though. He’s a sci-fi fan so not sure why, other than he said parts of it bored him. Of course, if he ends up with a fever later, I’ll know the real reason. MrEggSalad can give his review if he’d like as he was my other companion to the movie.
More? More? I hope you’re right about that mwro mou. Bring ’em on!
January 18, 2010 at 3:09 am #176549PhilipModeratorI’m going to watch it soon, but a friend told me to watch the non-3D version here, because they are charging more for the 3D version and the glasses are crappy. So there.
January 18, 2010 at 12:56 pm #176552Doris KenneyParticipantI think I’ll watch with you Philip 🙂 My depth perception is so bad I have a really hard time with 3D. So if/when I watch – it will be just plain old movie for me as well.
January 18, 2010 at 9:51 pm #176547PolarBearNPRParticipantYep – 3D ran $3 more – then of course we “recycled” the glasses by tossing them into a huge, labeled box. I’m glad it’s out in 2D because yeah, 3D can be hard on the eyes – for many reasons! And it will never be “just (a) plain old movie.” It really is something different – and in this case, different is great!
January 18, 2010 at 11:16 pm #176541GroovemasterMemberYou are really missing out if you don’t see it in 3D.
January 18, 2010 at 11:23 pm #176543MrEggsaladParticipantSo Avatar…
Basically as a movie, when looking for a story it fluctuates from “Meh” to “Good”.
There certainly are lasting impressions it leaves you with, however it was just too long. There were about 3 places it could have ended, and maybe would have even made a good Avatar 2 (with how long it is and all). I think you really do have to see it in 3D to get the experience, although during very actiony fast scenes it got hard to look at and determine exactly what was going on, although I think this was a 3D tech issue. Overall, worth it.
