Hi everyone.
Sorry to be a pest.
Ok, I for some reason cant get into yahoo chat, after 8 years it has stopped on me. It was all working ok, until my mic didn’t work in rooms, then I re installed it for that,, my mic worked then rooms didn’t… lol.
When I go to chat and “join room” a empty box comes up with “getting category list” and the list NEVER comes up!!
Even if friends invite me to a room, won’t work either… VERY frustrating!
I have re installed messenger 4 times, also removed all existing files form my c drive ect. I am not too keen on sending my “Log files” to yahoo to find out what the problems is.Thanks for any ideas you might have. 🙂

As for the Yahoo chat room, I don’t use them personally, but I do access the game rooms and there are a couple of things you can try.
Make sure you have the latest version of Java installed. Some of the older versions don’t work well on Yahoo.
Also, make sure you have your pop up blockers turned off, or have allowed the yahoo sites. Java windows are considered pop-ups and many toolbar and browser pop up blockers will only display a white box. In fact, your friends may see you in the room or lobby, but you will not show yourself as having connected, and eventually it will just throw you out.
If you happen to be using AOL software to connect to the rooms, there are a number of incompatibilites which range from not being able to get into rooms, to your system freezing up for long periods of time. If possible you should go thru IE to access them in this case. Also, while not specific to this problem, there are some acknowledged issues going on with Firefox that YH is working to sort out. So again – I recommend IE for connecting to YH games/chat just now.
My final suggestion is a complete scan for viruses and spyware with up to date definitions. It’s good preventative maintenance and you never know if it might help. Be sure your browser is closed during both operations.
If these don’t help, I’m sure one of the YH gurus will be alonng and will have some other possible ideas to help you. Let me know if these do or don’t help so we can try to find the next set of steps if necessary and you don’t get repetitive advice on what to try. Be patient and we’ll do our best to help you sort this out.

Doesn’t seem to matter which version of 8.1 or 9.0 I use I just keep getting the “Getting Category List” thing. Does anyone have a fix for this? It was working fine until I had to reinstall messenger.

I’ve been using Yahoo’s help but it takes them about 30 hours a shot to get back to me and I really don’t know what to do at this point. Not to sound egotistical or anything, but I’m a pretty tech savvy person.
I mean, I know it’s not a network issue as I have two different PCs on this network and one doesn’t have the issue. I’m thinking of making a brand new thinking maybe it’s a bug tied to my previous two accounts. The only thing I can possibly think of is that it’s a registry related issue.
Yahoo help keeps having me mess with my browser settings which is all find and dandy, but I know it’s not my browser. Something changed in the 1 hour between doing a complete uninstall of 9.0 beta and my reinstall of 8.1
