I have a friend that was having some troubles with her computer a couple nights ago. Heres what happened:
She was signed onto AIM with two direct connections open. Internet Explorer was not opened at all. She had some, well, not too appropiate pictures saved in her My Documents and was sending them back and forth between these to users.
All of a sudden these tiny Internet Explorer boxes started poping up, about twenty, that said things like “Stop looking at porn”. At the bottom of these boxes there were a “yes” and “no” button which just closed the box.
A couple minutes later about twenty more boxes poped up again that said “Then why are you still looking at it?!?” with the “yes” and “no” buttons. Messages like this continued to pop up. One box consisted of “Your computer now has a virus”. After about five or six sets of these twenty boxes poping up, her Internet started kicking her off and so she just shut off her computer.
One of my friend’s friends told her that what she recieved was a “porn bomb” which, according to this person, can be sent through a direct connection on AIM.
My friend is convinced that her parents have set something up on her computer that can track items saved on the computer.
Does anyone know what I am talking about? Does anyone know anything about “Porn bombs”?
I would really appriciate any responces back…. Thanks!:D
(Sorry if there are any type-os… I’m typing this up before I go to school and I’m kinda in a rush.)
April 28, 2003 at 7:05 pm #96844BladeXXMemberdid anything happen to the people that recived thoes pictures too?
could be that her freind…. hacked in to her computer and started making thoes type of messages i’m not realy sure but what she should get is a virus protector but before you do that you dont want it happening again so i would say to reformat the computer start from fresh with a virus protector!!!April 28, 2003 at 8:30 pm #96846GoodCharlotteBabeMemberI’m not saying that that virus protector isn’t a good thing, but I’m pretty sure that she didn’t actually get a virus. This happened a couple days ago and I was at her house yesterday and everything seemed to be fine. The people she was talking to didn’t have anything wrong with their computer (even though they might have no thought much of it if something did happen since they were stoned).
Once again, if anyone has any kind of information about “porn bombs” or has had something similar to this happen to their computer PLEASE post something!
Much love 😉
April 28, 2003 at 8:37 pm #96840SlumMemberHave your friend, get Trojan Scanner. If she was getting Information boxes that asked her to press ok… there is a good chance that there might be a Trojan installed on the computer. The person could use a screendump to see exactly what is on your screen… This might account for them seeing the pictures.
I’m not sure about if something like that would be encrypted into the file itself… I suppose it is possible because I have seen image files open up websites. Just have them get a Trojan scanner, and narrow down the possabilites.
April 29, 2003 at 12:19 pm #96841newrisedesignsMemberFirst of all, were the buttons in the popups “Yes/No” or “OK/Cancel”? “OK/Cancel” would lead me to believe that they sent you a page with a bunch of Javascript alerts. Nothing too damaging there.
Download Spybot – Search and Destroy (http://security.kolla.de/). Let it search your hard drive for any spyware. It can also remove Gator, CometCursor and those other downloadables that share your information.
April 29, 2003 at 1:39 pm #96843BladeXXMemberI would download Ad aware its much better then spy bot search and destroy.Ad Aware http://www.lavasoft.nu/software/adaware

May 4, 2003 at 4:10 pm #96845GoodCharlotteBabeMemberJust a little reply to everyones posts…
The buttons on the pop ups had “yes/no” on them, not “ok/cancel”. About three days after this event my friends computer went wacko and all the programs would not work properly. First her Microsoft Word went, then her email program. As far as I know now, her computer is still not working correctly.
Thanks to Slum for the post about the Trojan Scanner. I downloaded it myself and it found a “nasty” which I obviously wasn’t aware of.
To everyone else that posted something about scanners, thanks for the input but as you can tell, it’s just a little too late for that. LoL :p
I’d be curious if anyone else has ever been hit with a virus like this, so if you have please post something.
Much love 😉
