Are there any plans to release any RSS feeds of forum activity? I’d love a way to pull data like when a new topic is posted by a particular member (i.e. me), or when a particular forum gets a new thread added.
Any RSS plans in the works? I’ll admit it, I’m a data junkie.

We currently have two active RSS feeds for BigBlueBall:
- All Forum Activity (including news)
- IM News (just the stuff on the front page)
We also have one for the podcast, but it’s on hiatus while we retool. 😉
May 6, 2008 at 6:03 pm #169095TigerbladeParticipantHmm, it appears there’s also an RSS feed for each section, which I didn’t notice before. For example, here’s the feed of the AIM forum: https://bigblueball.com/forums/external.php?type=RSS2&forumids=117
I was looking more specifically for something I could use on a deeper level, as a sort of presence feed (similar to how I can pull my recent activity feeds from Twitter, or Pownce, or last.fm, etc). Do we/could we have something similar?

Uh, you lost me there. What do you mean by a “presence feed?”
May 6, 2008 at 9:59 pm #169096TigerbladeParticipant“Presence” is one of the buzzwords for services like Twitter, Jaiku, Pownce, etc… where you have a sort of running tab of what you’re doing. For all practical purposes, substitute “presence feed” for “twitter feed.”
In the case of BBB, it would indicate my recent activity – when I post a new thread, that would be reflected in this feed. Because of the level of activity in a forum, it probably wouldn’t be efficient to go much deeper than posting new articles or threads (meaning, exclude comments on existing threads).
May 7, 2008 at 3:08 am #169099YahooliganMemberAh, so you want an RSS feed of only those threads that you have posted in? That sounds pretty cool, if it’s possible.
May 7, 2008 at 3:40 pm #169091Jeff HesterKeymasterTigerblade, are you looking for an RSS of just your posts, or of replies to threads you’ve posted in?
May 7, 2008 at 9:56 pm #169097TigerbladeParticipantWhatever. I was thinking a feed of my posts, but if you have something else in mind… I’m all ears.
May 7, 2008 at 11:01 pm #169092Jeff HesterKeymasterHmmm… I’m curious why you want a feed of only your own posts. How would this be useful?
May 7, 2008 at 11:52 pm #169098TigerbladeParticipantNot necessarily all posts; I’m more interested in when I start a discussion. Check out Jeff Croft’s Tumblelog for an idea of what I’m working on.
It’s an aggregate of all my various online incarnations – flickr, twitter, newsvine, etc… It’d be great to include BBB on that list.
Of course, I suppose an alternate method would be to check the feed you linked earlier, of all forum activity, to see if my username is listed as a creator.
May 8, 2008 at 10:41 pm #169093Jeff HesterKeymasterOk, I get it now. Let me see how easy/difficult that would be to whip up…
