Inspired by [THREAD=27845]this[/THREAD] thread – share your TerraGen creations! If you’ve never heard of TerraGen or if you never used it, try it! It’s a free program that can produce brilliant computer-made scenery. 🙂
January 15, 2005 at 3:18 pm #111888xerraireMemberWell this is a subject close to my heart, a few of my Terragens
The rest of my Terragen gallery can be seen here» http://xerraireart.com/Terragens/

They’re all really beautiful, everyone.
January 16, 2005 at 6:14 am #111884detn8rParticipantxerraire, you are the TerraGen QUEEN! Perhaps putting up a tutorial or two? 🙂

I could try to make some, I suppose. My favorite part of creating Terragens is making the skies and atmospheres. Perhaps let me know what you think you need help on, perhaps I can answer them here.
In the meanwhile, I’d encourage anyone interesting in learning more about Terragens, to join the Terragen Yahoo group. (Members: 4678) They are knowledgeable there (Terragen’s creator is close to the group), and usually helpful with that knowledge.
My only tiny hesitation for posting tutes for the public, is, Terragen is slated for sometime this year to revamp the entire program, expanding what it can do. It will be a full program.
Another small item on terragen at the moment, is that I do have the paid version, and that enables me to use bigger terrains (allowing for more detail).
Lastly, thank you so much, detn8r, you made a gal quite happy with your compliment. 🙂
January 16, 2005 at 3:04 pm #111905neo_ny_23MemberXerraire,
One thing I couldn’t figure out is how to add greenery or snow to the terrains or ground.. I joined and checked the pictures there which are just awesome. Anyways, this is one of the coolest software for graphics I have ever seen. Amazing.January 16, 2005 at 7:19 pm #111890xerraireMemberNeo
You have just touched on what I think is the most difficult part of Terragen, making surfaces. You can get some starting surfaces HERE
An idea is to download them, use them, but look to see how they are used. Disect the settings, and try new things on your own.
Here is a tutorial in PDF format » http://www.mclusky.co.uk/surfacemapguide.pdf
Explaining layers and child layers. There is another way to go using Bitmap Overlays » http://www.terranuts.com/artman/publish/article_32.shtml
These should help start you out.

thanks for the tips. I havent gone through them in details but they seem quite helpful. And yeah, ASHUNDAR’s pics can be just described in one word: awesomeeeeeeeeeee. Good stuff.January 16, 2005 at 11:09 pm #111899Red DevilMemberI just downloaded Terragen and I like it! Heres my first creation.
Yeah… I have no idea what i’m doing… 😀
January 16, 2005 at 11:25 pm #111897DJHyperbyteMemberXerraire, I find it extremely difficult to create the terrain the way I want it… are there some other tools to edit the terrain besides lower terrain and raise terrain? Is there something like ‘level terrain’?
Let’s say I’d want to create a beach, how would I do that? If I try it in the landscape editor I can never get the shore to ‘raise’ the right way…
Or, let’s say I’d want to create something like this. How do you get the terrain so ‘precise’?

Unfortunately there isnt a lot of control in the actual creation of terrains. (Unlike, say Bryce).
However, what I do is download terrains already made from actual places having used DEM files to create the terrains.
At this site » http://www.timster.net/
You can find some excellent terrains to download. You might notice that most of them are from the American West. Also there have been people using World Machine, having made some excellent terrains as well. Ashundar, which I mentioned in an earlier post has some terrains as well » http://www.ashundar.com/list.php?c=terYou might notice that some terrains are very large and would require you to register your Terragen.
