Sony Ericsson has developed an application for Bluetooth technology that speaks to the average man–or at least to the average 12 year old that lurks just below the surface of the average man. The Bluetooth Motion Cam ROB-1 (below) offers no practical use that I can see that isn’t illegal, or at the very least, in very poor taste. I love it.
The ROB-1 is a robotic web cam enclosed in a small plastic sphere about the size of a grapefruit. It receives its marching orders from your Bluetooth cell phone and beams images back to the phone. Two rotating rings that are slightly offset from the sphere’s diameter act as “wheels” that move ROB-1 forward and backward and turn it left and right.
The camera can also be tilted upward to an angle of 70 degrees or downward at 20 degrees and according to Sony Ericsson has range of up to 50 meters.
It’s a rolling observatory, and a must-have for anyone with pets or siblings that need watching.
