Does anyone know any secret trillian emoticons. I’m especially looking for a clown with +’s as eyes. If you look under C:Program FilesTrillianSkinsemots there is a photo formatted document. The clown i am looking for is the one in the 5th row. Does anyone know how to make that emoticon in text form?
Here are some secret emoticons:

Is it your understanding that other non trillian users see these ’emotes’?rustedtight
August 7, 2002 at 4:35 pm #101195UnknownMemberWell, actually I was mentioning the emots folder to Trillian users since my post was in the Trillian Forum…I don’t want to download EVERY SINGLE skin just for the one smiley I’m lookin’ for. Just wanted to ask if anyone knew what the text was.
August 7, 2002 at 6:18 pm #101189Jeff HesterKeymasterI think you’re talking about this emoticon:
It is in the master emoticon file, but it is not enabled in the default skin. One of the cool things about Trillian (from the skin developer’s point of view) is that emoticons and other interface elements are all controlled by XML files.
If you open C:Program FilesTrillianskinsTP2pluginsTP15Emoticons-16x16main.xml in a text editor, you’ll see how all of the emoticons are defined. They are all pulled from a single image (emoticons.bmp), and most of them have multiple keyboard shortcuts to do the same thing.
For example, if I want to send this clown: , I could type any of the following shortcuts:
(clown)
(CLOWN)
:0)
:o)
:O)
<<@:)The main.xml file identifies each emoticon by pixel coordinates within the emoticon.bmp file. With a little careful searching, I found that (at least in *my* main.xml file) the emoticon was commented out (Lines 316-321).
You could, in theory, uncomment those lines, but you would also have to redefine the keyboard shortcuts, as they are the same ones used for the clown I’ve shown above! You could, for example, delete all the lines except one, and change the keyboard shortcut to something like (deadclown).
But the thing to keep in mind is that if you change your XML file, ONLY YOU will ever see those emoticon changes. The only way for other Trillian users to see them is if they also make the changes. The best way to share these kinds of changes? Learn how to make a skin, and get your friends to download and install it. Even if you just made changes to the emoticons, that’s the easiest way for novice users to implement those kinds of changes.
One final note… Many, MANY of the special Trillian emoticons will not appear on your friend’s IM program unless they are also running Trillian. Some will, some won’t. The way AIM, MSN, Yahoo, etc. work, they look at the text that is sent, (clown) for instance, and then convert it to an emoticon. If the IM application doesn’t understand the keyboard shortcut, your friend will see the text instead of a picture. Kind of a bummer.

That was so confusing. I’m not that good at computers, so you have to simplify…I thought all you needed was a text like (turkey) to get the turkey, so I thought to get that clown it would be something like (clown+) or some other text….Can u simply tell me the text for it.August 8, 2002 at 1:02 pm #101188Jeff HesterKeymasterQuote:quote:

I’ll give you the bottom-line: there is no text for it. It is an emoticon that is included in their system, but which has not been activated and cannot be sent or received (at least not without some customization as I described in my first reply).
