Maybe FB just doesn’t like me!!
March 13, 2009 at 12:49 am #173428FanaticMemberThanks for testing this, folks! I don’t use FB myself, but I know there are about 175 million who do, and making it easy for them to join the conversation at BigBlueBall is bound to be a good thing.
We WILL get the bugs worked out, I promise!
March 13, 2009 at 2:32 am #173451Joe BallMemberOk, I’ve done a little more testing. I’ve attached a snapshot of my Facebook notifications screen. Take a look and you will see something weird. Some of the notifications say: “patndoris has replied to thread…” and others say “Doris Kenney has replied to thread…”
The ones that say patndoris are hyperlinked to your profile: BigBlueBall Forums – View Profile: patndoris
The ones that say Doris Kenney are not hyperlinked to anything.
The one that says Mark Andrews (Yahooligan?) are hyperlinked to his Facebook page.
The other ones (fanatic, philip, dr kimble) are hyperlinked to their bigblueball profiles.
So what does this mean?
To me, it seems like the facebook integration is working for Mark (yahooligan). It seems like it’s partially sorta kinda working for Doris Kenney, tho I’m not sure why her name is not linked to her profile (maybe a privacy setting?). And it seems like philip, fanatic, and dr kimble aren’t using FB connect at all, but just using the regular forum sign-in.
And so……. what does this mean?
I *think* it means that it’s working, sorta, tho not for everyone. Maybe we need to get a few more people to test it and see what happens for them?
March 13, 2009 at 2:41 am #173435YahooliganMemberI don’t know if this helps, but my notifications screen looks completely different from yours…. see attached.
It seems to be working, but why does it look so different? I’m not receiving any notifications? Just sending them? Hrmmmm…
March 13, 2009 at 2:56 am #173446Doris KenneyParticipantI just logged out and back in using the FB connect button. I’m crossing fingers I’ll get something – even showing as sent. I couldn’t find anywhere on FB where permissions would have been blocking stuff – but they’ve got so many settings it’s hard to find them all.
Edit: w00t! I got the email notification and the send showed up straight away! It’s down to receiving notifications now. I don’t have a single one of those yet 🙁
March 13, 2009 at 3:08 am #173436YahooliganMemberpatndoris, you looking at this page, right? http://www.facebook.com/notifications.php
March 13, 2009 at 3:13 am #173437YahooliganMemberI think I figured out why I didn’t get any notifications. They were turned off. Had to go to this page: http://www.facebook.com/editaccount.php?notifications and set BigBlueBall forums to ON.
March 13, 2009 at 3:32 am #173447Doris KenneyParticipantYup that’s the page I’m looking at. My email notifications were already on, but I only see sent notifications – none are showing rec’d. (I have sent and rec’d checked to show and BBB shows as authorized in the sidebar of notifications too.)
It quite possibly is a setting I’ve not found yet on FB but I just can’t figure out where it would be. I’ve allowed everything I can find so far.
March 16, 2009 at 2:34 am #173452Joe BallMemberpatndoris, in Facebook, go to Settings > Applications then Show “Allowed to Post”
For me, BigBlueBall Forums are “allowed to post one-line stories without prompting.”
What are your settings?
March 16, 2009 at 2:38 am #173438YahooliganMemberMine say the same thing, and it’s been working. I also have another app that’s just BigBlueBall.com, and it’s allowed to post short stories without prompting. I’m guessing that’s the comments on the homepage stuff, right?
March 16, 2009 at 10:27 am #173448Doris KenneyParticipantBoth BBB.com and BBB Forums have this:
Allow BigBlueBall.com to publish one-line stories automatically, but prompt me for larger stories.
March 22, 2009 at 3:25 am #173430FanaticMemberGOOD NEWS! We’ve done a little further debugging and testing, and believe we have the problems resolved. This will benefit “Facebook only” members as well as those with existing BigBlueBall accounts.
Please kick the tires and take it for a spin!
March 23, 2009 at 4:07 am #173454Graham CoatsMemberHow does one remove the application completely? I had already signed in with just my Facebook account, and now I don’t know how to switch to using an already existing forum account. Anyone help?
March 23, 2009 at 1:31 pm #173429FanaticMemberGraham, I think you can do this in Facebook. Go to Settings > Application Settings and choose “Allowed to Post.” From there, you can (as I recall) delete an application. Once you do that, I’m thinking that MAYBE you can associate your FB account with your existing BBB account. Give it a try and let me know if that works.
