Hi All,
I thought this question might have been asked before in this forum, but didn’t find any posts after searching.
My yahoo messeger keeps restarting frequently. It started happening since last week. I do not remember having installed any new software. I googled for a solution to this problem, but nobody has any good idea why this is happening.
I am using the lastest version of yahoo messenger 9.0
thanks
October 24, 2008 at 6:22 am #171676tekNerdMemberYa, something like that happens to me too. Not sure if is restarting, but sure is sign off/in by itself(and i don’t have the sign in automatically checked).
What else can I try besides clearing the cache, uninstall and delete all registry, folders and whatnot?
I am using the latest english messenger, on a italian XP pro SP3.
Thank u for your time.October 24, 2008 at 12:36 pm #171674gud_frndMemberHi,
I also meant sign off and sign in automatically when I said restarting. I wonder why no one has any technical solution to this problem.
I early suspected that my ISP has problem. To check this i pinged to the yahoo messenger server in -t mode and watched whether it is breaking. I saw sign off/sing in automatically on yahoo messegner but there was no break in the communication with yahoo messenger server.
Has anybody faced similar problem and found a solution. please help! this is an SOS call 🙂
thanks.

Worse, I tried to upgrade to 9 to see if it has any affect, and no system here will work with 9, Yahoo signs in, and immediately signs right back off, repeatedly. I had to downgrade everyone back to 8. Gad, I gladly would pay a subscription for a business class service.
October 24, 2008 at 5:41 pm #171675tekNerdMemberSince we are at the SOS call point, I must say that drives me nuts the time it takes to start. I mean, the process it starts immediately, but the GUI appears after an almost 2 minutes (in this time the process consumes a maximum of 30% of my P4 3,25 GHz).
What da hell is going on?October 24, 2008 at 8:54 pm #171685Doris KenneyParticipantOften when you find lots of people having the exact same problem that starts all at the same time – it’s symptomatic of a server side issue. Dissconnects have been a frequent source of frustration in the past on Yahoo and it sounds like they are back.
There is likely nothing you can do but wait it out. If it just happens out of the blue it’s likely a Yahoo problem.

Could it be a windows problem?October 28, 2008 at 11:48 pm #171668imported_Ven0mMemberHow long between the disconnects? It could be because you got hit by a bad exploit several months ago if it’s instantly when you log into Messenger.

October 29, 2008 at 3:14 am #171663Jeff HesterKeymasterI had a problem similar to this earlier this year and I probably brought it up on this forum before. I was in Yahoo and every 1 to 20 minutes, it kept signing itself out and then logging back in. It may have also been a Yahoo server problem, but mainly a connection problem. It no longer happens and only does if I have a problem with my DSL modem (rarely now since a couple people made it so I can directly connect to Ethernet (direct connection to my motherboard for internet instead of unreliable wireless)). I’m sure it was a problem with my DSL modem as evident by MSN doing the same thing and web pages pausing before loading.
Try unplugging the DSL model and wireless router (if you have one) from behind the modem, wait about 10 to 30 seconds, then plug them both back in to reset the router and this may fix it like it has for my internet connection when I experience difficulties.
November 1, 2008 at 5:08 pm #171664Jeff HesterKeymasteryou have a keylogger in you PC, and probably you have Remember password on you Yahoo Messenger. that is the reason.
or other posibility is the internet fluctuations.November 1, 2008 at 6:33 pm #171687Doris KenneyParticipantHaving “remember password” checked does not necessarily cause any problems. It depends on the individual computer and the reason for the restarts.
As for a keylogger – it is very possible there is malware on the machine. Certainly full scans for viruses and malware would be appropriate – that would be the first thing I’d suggest doing when something starts misbehaving out of nowhere. But the symptom alone is not enough to make such a definitive statement that this user has a keylogger.
Internet fluctuations and ISP issues can be a frustrating problem and often hard to figure out as the cause. Wireless routers can also have signals messed up by things as simple as a cordless phone or microwave.
Only by attacking the possibilities one by one, and ruling them each out will you be able to troubleshoot the problem. This particular symptom can have so many possible causes that it will likely take some time, patience and persistence to narrow down to the root cause.
November 1, 2008 at 6:46 pm #171669imported_Ven0mMemberKeylogger? Probable but doubtful. It depends how often the disconnects are. If it’s instantly when you log in, then I have a pretty good idea what it could be.
November 3, 2008 at 10:47 pm #171678tekNerdMemberI just reinstalled windows and still happens. Maybe is about a incompatibility with another software or something, hell if I know.
If anyone has any more ideas…November 4, 2008 at 1:17 am #171670imported_Ven0mMemberDoes it happen instantly when you log in?
