Boss…are you really saying you want meaningless posts to clog the forum because members are required to post one forum message per day in order to play arcade games?!?! Since when is BBB so desparate for forum activity that you have to put this restriction on playing games? Tsk Tsk
March 25, 2009 at 4:10 pm #173923YahooliganMemberWasn’t there always a posting requirement? It doesn’t bother me (I don’t post daily, but I don’t play in the arcade daily), but it doesn’t seem like such a big deal. BBB is a community first, right? The arcade is just a perk for that community.
To turn it around, how do you think it should work? Should there be no requirements to join? No requirements to post?
March 26, 2009 at 4:22 pm #173926FancyMemberRequirements serve a purpose. If there is a need for an increase in postings, then yes, the requirements serves the purpose of increasing the number of posts. The requirement may very well have always been in place and I never noticed it. But I do notice it now and it disturbs me to be required to post something in the forum if I want access to the arcade. Do you think someone required to post something so they can use the arcade is going to provide you with a quality tidbit of information or some thoughtful answer to your questions? I was under the impression that BBB was beyond needing to encourage random posts by using access to the arcade as an incentive. Maybe Jeff should also require each post be ‘x’ number of words long? I think generally speaking when you require a minimum number of posts, you immediately sacrifice quality for quantity.
March 26, 2009 at 8:04 pm #173922FanaticMemberActually, there is a requirement that a post be “x” number of characters long. 🙂
Anyhooo… We do listen to our members, and for now, we have removed the post requirement from the Arcade. We’ll see how it goes. The point of the arcade is that it is for the members of the community. Signing up on the site alone doesn’t really make you a community member — participation in the community does. I doubt there will be a problem with people abusing the system (i.e. joining only to use the arcade and never posting), but if it does become a problem, we may change the requirements (again).
Thanks for expressing your opinion, and I hope you like the (now) free and open Arcade! 🙂

March 29, 2009 at 12:01 pm #173927PolarBearNPRParticipant🙁 What about the rest of us? Could you bring the cookies to the Community Center so we can stand around awhile and tawlk?
And by the way – he may not actually need the cookies as he is sweet enough already.
