Has anybody else here downloaded Skype ?
If so, I am curious about several things since I too have downloaded it. After you are done registering and the program begins I noticed most of the options say call and I know this may seem dumb but how exactly does this call feature work? I have not added any friend yet since I have not told them about it yet so I can’t really test it.
Does the call feature dial their house or internet or something??
I’m new to voice chat since I just bought a mic so I can talk to family so I am pretty curious about this program. Is it really free? (I’m always skeptical about free things)
Yes I did try their FAQ at their site but it does not really explain how this call feature works. Perhaps I’m misunderstanding. Again, I’m new to this. Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Skype PC-to-PC calls via internet are entirely free, but it will use a fair bit of bandwith. The sound quality kicks ass though and it feels just like a normal phone. Skype PC-to-phone calls are not free, but the costs for international calls could very well be lower than the costs you pay for your normal phone line. Where you can find how much you pay exactly for PC-to-phone calls with Skype, I don’t know. I’m sure there is a pricelist somewhere in the support section of their website, or else on Google.
Oh ok I get it now. Thanks. 🙂 About the bandwith, I wonder if it’s bad for dial up users such as myself. I don’t care if it slows down websurfing or stuff like that since when I’m usually chatting I don’t surf anything.
Well, Skype is supposed to automatically adjust the sound quality according to the available bandwith, so technically it should work fine.

SKYPE USES ENCRYPTED AUDIO,so it BOGS your computer down big time,as encrypted audio is harder for the computer to process (Especially on 98)
I cant run any versions higher than .97.40 of skype,they are just too much for 98 to handle….It locks up when I open it,and its not very stable……..
Im happy with .97.40 (I think thats the rite version numba — 97 something)

Maybe your computer is just underpowered?
