Yahoo continues to push the envelope with creative ways to promote their new Yahoo! Messenger 6. Now you can sign-up to win a private backyard BBQ and concert with Hoobastank. Just register, then add five friends to your buddy list between now and August 2.
I’d probably add five friends over the course of a month anyway, so why not enter?
Who is Hoobastank? A cool alternative rock band with a weird name. They are getting a lot of airplay these days, so you’ve probably heard them, but in case you haven’t, check’em out at http://www.hoobastank.com
If you want to win, you have to register for the contest — just adding people won’t qualify you. After you’ve registered, just add five people to your Y! Messenger buddy list before August 2 and you’ll be qualified (assuming you fit the qualifications of the official rules). The good news? You only have to be 13 years or older. The bad news? You must live in the continental United States. Yep, if you live in Hawaii or Alaska (or outside the U.S.), you’re screwed. Life is a bitch sometimes, isn’t it?
I like these kinds of contests, and I think it will do a lot to generate interest in Y! Messenger. Yahoo faces an uphill battle against AOL with their huge, captive base of dial-up subscribers and MSN with the desktop operating system. They have to try harder, which is good news for you — you get cool features and innovative promotions.
Kudos to Yahoo for keeping the volume cranked all the way to eleven
