Hi.
You know, I have to admit something. I don’t read the Yahoo forum that much, because Yahoo simply doesn’t interest me. But today the “IP address” thread go my attention and I started reading. I ran into a thread called “Buddy Spy 2.1”. I’m a bit surprised by what I found in this thread.
Isn’t Buddy Spy a bit an ‘unethical’ program, with the eye on ‘privacy invasions’? I’d like to know the motivations for supporting Buddy Spy without problems. I’m asking this simply because I’m curious about how this whole situation sticks together, in a forum that is so keen on privacy protection. 🙂
It’s even possible that this was brought up before (but I couldn’t find anything about it), so forgive me if it was… I’m just a bit curious about this. 🙂
March 30, 2005 at 5:20 pm #117927OreoMemberIt’s been brought up numerous times and Jeff even made a poll about it. I think there might even be something in the mod section…apparently there’s nothihng in the mod section…but it was discussed quite a bit and there WAS a poll.
March 30, 2005 at 6:47 pm #117923DJHyperbyteMemberSo what’s the whole story behind this? Why is it allowed? 🙂
March 30, 2005 at 6:55 pm #117928OreoMemberThere’s a search button…do what we tell the other memebers to do.

Shifter, Jeff, anyone? 🙂
March 30, 2005 at 8:22 pm #117929OreoMemberI’ll post where I want to post, thank you very much. It’s not a matter or like or dislike. It’s a very simple thing…search. It was a very large topic of discussion. Again, if you have something wrong personally with a moderator how about not airing it in public?
March 30, 2005 at 8:32 pm #117920detn8rParticipantActually the poll had dissapeared. It must have been deleted along with the older Buddy Spy threads.
In the end, moderators made no decision about it as the average visitor had liked the idea that Yahoo had the exploit and it was their right to use a program to their advantage.
As I had said in the poll (before it was deleted), just because you leave the bathroom door open a crack when having a shower, doesn’t give anyone any right to peak in because they can.
I still don’t like the idea of the threads being there, because we don’t allow people to post about exploits about malicious code (such as booters), but just like most things that get brought up for discussion here, they just die off.

Like you mentioned in your first post (and as I did in my second post), there are no threads about Buddy Spy. If there are no threads about a subject in the forums Oreo, the ‘search’ feature won’t magically make some appear. The search feature can’t find what’s not there.
In the future, please realize that I know how the ‘search’ feature works and please stop being nasty to me in public. You can think about me whatever you like (honestly), but don’t let it involve your professionalism on here.
These are the last words I’m gonna spend on this in this topic, so please don’t bother replying. If you want to further discuss this (and hopefully treat me like a friend again), feel free to contact me any way you like.

I just stepped out of the shower and tried to slam the door shut behind me, but it didn’t fall into the lock and I didn’t bother walking back to it… so I guess it’s still open a bit. 🙂
As for the topic at hand (Buddy Spy), yes… I was quite surprised to see a program like this supported at BigBlueBall. As a matter of fact, I found it quite disturbing that the program explicitly thanks the BigBlueBall forums on the welcome screen.
What I do know, as a fact, is that to some BBB members this is a thorn in the eye. Today I was talking to a friend and she told me she doesn’t visit BigBlueBall anymore because we seem to support such malicious programs like Buddy Spy. And while writing this I also vaguely remember that ALLEYCAT once mentioned he was annoyed because of our association with people like EliteNick and Unsakred. By then I did this off as quite strange, because they are normal forum members, but I’ve began to understand it a bit now.
So, alltogether… it doesn’t make much sense to me. I see some forum members enjoy the program (because, honestly… who doesn’t love spying on people secretly sometimes?) and I also see some forum members who do not enjoy this program at all. As a forum so negative about malicious software and privacy intrusion matters, I really can’t figure out why were on Buddy Spy’s side here.
I’m not trying to start a whole new forum war here about Buddy Spy, but I would like to see some of your opinions as, like I said, I am seriously surprised to find support for Buddy Spy on here.

DJ, please avoid disaparaging remarks about other moderators (I edited it). It was completely uncalled for. You know how to use the search function as well as anyone, but because you asked, I used the search engine for you and found the following:
Search is a marvelous thing, don’t you agree?
My position on Buddy Spy has been stated previously. It’s one of those gray areas that is open to interpretation.
March 30, 2005 at 9:17 pm #117926DJHyperbyteMemberOk. I encourage everyone to click “Search” in the toolbar and type “Buddy Spy”. You’ll find six threads and none of them are the ones you mentioned. See? Telling me to “search before you post” isn’t really helpful after all, because naturally… I did search before I post.
March 30, 2005 at 9:18 pm #117917Jeff HesterKeymasterBy the way, I found these using Google’s site search, not the forum search function. Apparently the search index for the forums is incomplete, because searching on the terms “buddy spy” returns precisely six results, none of which include the two threads I referenced in the post above.
So DJHyperbyte is correct… the forum search function sucks and is currently broken. And Google indeed rocks, once again.
March 30, 2005 at 9:51 pm #117921detn8rParticipantDoes that bring up a whole nothing can of worms. Perhaps we should try and to a site change to google search, rather forum search.
