MemberHey everyone. I keep getting disconnected from AIM. I leave my computer on 24/7…turn it off every now and then…and get disconnected from time to time. Sometimes when this happens, it signs me back on right away, but does not always let me send IMs.
I have Windows 98…can someone plese tell me where I can get a dl that keeps me on? Because I have a Cable hook-up, so I know its not my internet connection…
thanks

Participantit happened to me last year at school all the time.
its more likely its the AIM servers, once in a while they’re just down, although just cause its a cable connection doesnt mean it cant crash once in a while
otherwise, it could be an issue with your computer’s memory – the lower your memory, the more often you need to restart
hope that helps

MemberIt might be the memory, because the computer in my room…well…lets just say I bought it for 200 bucks. I never get on my parent’s computer, which is a huge big time computer…flatscreen…the works. Thanks Tigerblade…now I understand…

It all depends on the ISP. Some cable ISPs are very stable, others just suck. 😉 Either way, you are quite right.
fuRiouSr6, It’s most likely a connection problem with either your software, their software, your internet connection, or their internet connection. Remember most cheap internet providers do not provide an incredible stable service. Disconnects do happen.

It could be, but not likely. An easy way to see if your own system is failing would be to run AIM on another computer that is on the same internet connection and see if the problem disappears.
Also, Windows 98 isn’t a very stable operating system. You would maybe do good by upgrading to Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

MemberWell another reason, although I doubt this is the problem, is if you edited any of the files. I used RegEdit for a few things, messed up, and had to re-install Aim.
