Notebooks have been eating into the desktop space for a while now. This replacement has been due to the increased capabilities of notebooks coupled with lower prices for same. I am immersed in mobile technology, so it’s no surprise there are no desktops in my household. What about you? Have notebooks taken over your house […]

April 18, 2009 at 1:08 am #174384PhilipModeratorI have two desktops at home, and don’t foresee myself getting any notebooks or laptops yet. Besides, desktops are easier to upgrade and repair.

April 18, 2009 at 3:38 pm #174377TigerbladeParticipantI’ve got a laptop for home use, and really cannot imagine going back to a desktop as my primary machine. I bought the laptop when I was in college, because I needed to be able to take it to class, to the library, etc.
The portability factor (to me) outweighs the performance/maintenance issues. And notebooks aren’t really all that far behind desktops in terms of performance. I actually tried pricing out my ideal next laptop, and even topping it out it costs way less than I paid for this current machine.
I have to use a desktop at work, but not for much longer… I’m finally getting upgraded to a laptop. Score!
April 18, 2009 at 3:54 pm #174380MrOatsMemberI have a desktop. I really desire to get a laptop…but…it requires a thing called Money…And I don’t have any at the moment… Crap.
But, in the future, I see myself using a laptop for most of my computing.

Laptops are convenient, but I prefer to sit at a desktop and see a larger screen with a higher resolution. Ideally — it’s nice to have both, or at least a laptop that you can dock with an external monitor, keyboard and mouse, IMO.

Unlikely, though, at least that last one – if you have an iPhone, chances are pretty good you’ve got at least one other rig somewhere.

You cannot activate an iPhone except through iTunes, which requires either a Mac or Windows PC.
Technically, they could do that from work (if iTunes isn’t blocked) or from a friend or relative’s computer, but seriously, who has an iPhone but not a computer? Hmm?
