I’ve been playing around with Digsby skinning, and I’ve found something kinda neat that I’d like to share.
Basically, I have friends that send me youtube videos and the like, and I though “hey, why not embed them into digsby!”… unfortunately, I can’t load up the flash player in WebKit, this might change in the future…
So the next best thing, fetching the title of the pages!

It does what this forum software does – resolve the link to the title of the page it points to. It doesn’t slow down the IM process though, it creates a request in the background to update the link. So you will see the link location for a second, and then it will change to the title.
I still have a few bugs to work out, but is this a feature people would like?
May 14, 2008 at 11:15 pm #169375Jeff HesterKeymasterIt’s interesting. I think it would be even better if it were truncated after a certain length. Some titles get a little wordy. And sometimes it’s nice to be able to see the actual URL sent.
Actually, now that I think about it, I’d prefer to see the REAL url to combat IM trojans. It would be cool if you could toggle between the title and the real URL.
May 15, 2008 at 12:00 am #169377DavidParticipantHow would you want to toggle though? A button by every link doesn’t seem like a good solution. If Digsby/WebKit supported the title tag, it wouldn’t be such a problem. Perhaps just an allowed list.. i.e. only resolve Youtube links.
