The IRC channel has been pretty dead lately, so I’ve done a bit more work on my IRC bot, Davey. Davey is a project I’ve been working on on/off for about a year or so now. It started as a way for me to learn the IRC protocol and to do some operator functions, it’s grown into much more than that.
When you Join the chat, you’ll notice the user Davey in the channel, as well as a few other channels on the server. You can send Davey commands in a channel and get a response based on what the command does. This usually makes IRC a lot more interesting and fun.
Features:
– Current weather conditions:
!weather(will return the weather for that location.)
– Google lookup:
!google(will return the top result from google.)
– Yahoo lookup:
!yahoo(Works the same as google, but uses the Yahoo! search engine)
– MSN lookup:
!msn(Uses the MSN Search engine)
– Thesaurus lookup:
!the(Thesaurus lookup for the specified word)
– UrbanDictonary lookup:
!urbandict(will run Urbandictionay.com lookup)
– Acronym lookup:
!ac(Will get the two most common acronyms for the phrase)
– GoogleFight:
!gfight: (Will use googlefight.com to determine the what query has a higher rank on google)
– AIMFight:
!aimfight(Uses aimfight.com to get the network rank for each screen name and determine the winner) Trivia:
The #trivia channel supports BigBlueBall trivia questions, !trivia starts the trivia bot, !strivia stops it. The questions file is a bit outdated, but if you’re interested in writing new questions, please let me know!BigBlueBall post ticker:
When a new post is made, a message is sent to #bigblueball with a URL and some other bits of information, it’s a great way to chat and keep track of BBB at the same time!And for those of you versed in IRC, you can use any standard IRC client to connect, the server is irc.bigblueball.com, the port is 6667, and the channel is #bigblueball. (Also note that host masking is enabled on the server, for those of you that are paranoid about exposing their network address to others)

Thanks for writing such a fun, unique, and useful bot, Dave, I’m sure it will be put to good use, especially since I IRC a lot here on BigBlueBall.
Hopefully we can get the Trivia updated (possibly with a recode of the system so it’s more efficient?), maybe hold a few contests, too? I’ve been wanting to play for a bit, but I know all the answers from the Launch Party, so a redo of the Trivia section would be awesome.

It makes #bigblueball a little more interesting and adds some nice functionality. The Google Fight thing is actually quite fun to play with, and it’s easier than using their website.

There seems to be a problem with trivia at the moment, I was trying with Mr. Eggsalad earlier to use it but nothing was happening by typing !trivia in the trivia channel.
