Hi all,
I have my Yahoo Messenger installed awhile ago, but decided to un-install it
because it seems to give me some slight hiccups. After the un-installation,
it gave me more problem. I isntalled it again to try to fix the problem, and
problem got worse, so I un-installed it again, the problem got increasingly
worse!!!I think I’m stopping this installation cycle and try to get to the bottom of
this. At the moment, my PC has no Yahoo Messenger installed. But I have
problem opening the following websites:Sign In
Yahoo!
IG Markets – IG Markets | CFDs | CFDactually I have no problem with Yahoo!, it’s only when I try to go to
Yahoo mail from there that I have problem. Occassionally , I was able to oen
yahoo mail in classic fomat, but it’s very much touch and go. I can log into the igmarkets website, but once I logged in, the format all screwed up. I can’t see much of what I suppose to see. As for hotmail, I can’t even get the log on page.I have no problem open other websites at all, only these three. Yes I try to
open these with my wife’s PC with the same wi-fi connection at the same time
just to confirm that these three websites are all down at the same time
(which is very unlikely), but these websites did open ok (as expected) with my
wife’s PC.All these lead me to conclude that the problem have something to do with
opening website that uses messenger/data streaming technology (not that i’m
really know what I’m talking about. It’s all wild guesses). But how do I fix
it??? I have to say I don’t have much clue how these messenger/data streaming
work at all…Thanx in advance

Let’s start with some basic information:
1. What browser are you using? (If IE – what version?)
2. Do you specifically have Google Tooblar installed?
3. What other toolbars do you have installed in your browser?
4. Do you have any “safe surfing” plugins from your Anti-Virus running? (For instance AVG Watchdog?)
5. How many pages are set to load when you open your browser?
6. For display issues, have you ensured you have the latest flash and java versions?May 23, 2009 at 2:12 pm #174811LveAndLearnMemberSorry, should have stated environment info:
1. Windows version: Vista. IE version: 8.
2. No google toolbar installed.
3. No other tool bar install on my browser
4. no plugin as far as i know
5. only one page (if I understand the question correctly)
6. Java Version: 6.0.130.3. Flash? Don’t know that I have them. How do you check? Maybe that’s the problem. Before this reply. I re-installed BOTH Windows Messenger and Yahoo Messenger as I realise that maybe the fact Yahoo and hotmail mail box problem are separate problems. As it turned out, re-installing Windows Live Messenger did fix the hotmail problem. the hotmail is now open ok. But the problem with Yahoo remains unchanged.
Both Yahoo and Igmarkets still not able to display probably. With Yahoo, although it doesn’t display probably in CLASSIC format, but at least i can still read mails (yahoo doesn’t load the NEW mail format at all).
As for IGMarkets website, the display stuffed up so completely that I can’t use it at all (And i need to use it urgently). The fact that these two websites (Yahoo mail and IGmarkets) both use LIVE STREAMING, has that anything to do with the display problem?

On Yahoo’s own games pages they recommend not moving to IE8 because of the likelihood of problems. Is your wife’s PC also using IE8? I’m just wondering if a switch back to IE7 might help.
May 23, 2009 at 2:35 pm #174808LveAndLearnMemberThanx for replying.
I thnk we’re getting somewhere here. No, my wife’s PC definitely doesn’t have IE8. It may even be IE6.
Ok, so what is the best way to do this?
– simply re-install IE7 on top of IE8, or
– un-install IE8, then install IE7.The second requires more effort, but probably is a better way to go. Yeah?

May 23, 2009 at 2:38 pm #174803Doris KenneyParticipantJust go to add/remove programs and uninstall IE8. It should revert to IE7 without doing anything else.
May 23, 2009 at 3:07 pm #174809LveAndLearnMemberI can’t find IE8 in the “uninstall or change program” list, but only in the “Change startup programs” and it doesn’t say IE8. In fact when I click on it, the property info window tells me this:
File Version: 6.0.6000.16386 (vista_rtm.061101-2205).
So it says version 6! But the ‘About’ box in the browser says version 8!
What’s going on? I’m a bit nervous removing this from the “startup program” list, scaring I may have left browser-less…if’m browser-less, I can’t even download stuff from the net…
What is going on? And what should i proceed from here?
May 23, 2009 at 3:33 pm #174804Doris KenneyParticipantThese are the instructions for Vista:
* Start / Control Panel / Programs & Features
* On the left hand pane choose: View Installed Updates
* Find the one for Windows Internet Explorer 8 and Double click it and choose Yes when prompted for confirmation you wish to uninstall. If you want the try the Microsoft “Fix it for me” link or if you want to read more detailed instructions and/or see more information you can look at MS KB957700.
May 23, 2009 at 3:56 pm #174807LveAndLearnMemberActually I just found the “View Installed Updates” all on my own 🙂 But thanx a million for your help!!!
Just a quick note. After the un-installation, Windows said it would have to restart the PC for the effect to take place. After the restart (and I can see Window was updating stuff as it restarting), but nothing has changed after the restart. Just when I feel like drop my PC down the 8th floor, I decided just restart the PC once again for whatever sake. And it worked! Everything work again to normal after TWO restarts.
I never like to keep up with technology and stay away from Beta anything like plague. This is the first time I’ve broken this rule, and it wasted a lot of my time. Yep, I have learnt a lession that I have ALREADY known! D’oh!!!!!!
Once again, Thanx you, you’re a life saver!
May 23, 2009 at 4:17 pm #174806Doris KenneyParticipant😀 Glad you are all fixed! It’s always nice to know when something worked out well (and without too much fuss either!!)
