Hey its Dave, from the director of yahoo, everybody sorry for the interruption, but yahoo is closing the system down because too many booters are taking up all the names, we only have 57 names left, if u would like to keep your account, send the message to everyone on your list. This is no joke, you’ll be sorry if you don’t send it. Thanks, director of yahoo, Tim Buiski. Whoever doesn’t send this message your account will be deactivated and it will cost you $10.00 a month to use it. To send to everyone on your list right click on your group
*this is not a real message from Yahoo Inc (as I’m sure most of you know).
December 19, 2006 at 11:20 pm #155640detn8rParticipantThis is obviously a stupid hoax I received as as offline message on Yahoo Messenger.
I’m not sure why people make these, perhaps to see how long it takes for it to get back to them? Either way, they’re damn annoying (especially when you get several a night) so, PLEASE mother of canned corn… don’t be so gullible! Yahoo would NEVER charge $10 a month to use their service, plus actually spell “you” as one letter.. pfft!
But what really got me was “yahoo is closing the system down because too many booters are taking up all the names, we only have 57 names left” HA!
December 19, 2006 at 11:30 pm #155644mfenechMemberI actually find them quite valuable. Any chick who forwards me one of these gets used and abused by Dermot’s Denial tool. If she’s stupid enough to believe this kind of message, she’s way too stupid for me. :p

December 20, 2006 at 12:09 am #155639Jeff HesterKeymasteri would hope nobody would fall for the not enouph im names. there are endless im names left.
December 20, 2006 at 1:06 am #155643NessaParticipantWell det i hope you don’t mind but i removed the *please sticky* part because those type of messages have been around since probably before i started using Yahoo! I have gotten plenty of those foward messages from people who truly believe in them.
There was always these as well as other similar messages…..
So the only question left for me right now is, has it always said $10 bucks or are they getting more expensive now! 😛
December 21, 2006 at 2:16 am #155642DermotParticipantWell as much as the e-mail world is plagued by SPAM the IM word is plagued by SPIM
Those messages do get around but i tell my buddys not to send the garbage like to me or i would remove them from my list.
But yeah, if yahoo! started to charge 10$ it would be suicide for their chat service and the end of their ad campaign in it as paying users should not see ads.
so i doubt it will ever happen anytime soon 🙂
December 21, 2006 at 6:15 am #155645mfenechMemberI request someone in the leadership here create a FAQ-type sticky thread called “YM Myths & Realities”, or words to that effect. It can cover items like the subject of this thread, and many others. For example:
How can someone get my IP address?
Can people tell if I’m online when I’m set to Invisible?
How do strangers know my webcam is on?
Can someone see my webcam without me knowing it?
Can someone record my webcam feed?
Why doesn’t Yahoo fix booter exploits?
Why doesn’t Yahoo do anything about bots?
Do the bot developers pay Yahoo? [my favorite]
How does Yahoo respond to complaints?
Will Yahoo Chat become a pay service? -
