Can someone obtain my IP through a webcam session on Yahoo messenger. I am using a router and wireless internet. Would they be able to get my computers IP or the routers?
April 12, 2009 at 8:25 pm #174262imported_Ven0mMemberThrough a super webcam session, yes. Even if somebody had your IP chances are they wouldn’t know what to do with it.
April 13, 2009 at 4:47 am #174269dwalklp89MemberIs there a difference between a regular and a super webcam session? If you wanted to do a super webcam session would you have to select that?
April 13, 2009 at 5:08 am #174261FanaticMemberYes, there is a difference between a regular and super webcam session. And if they got any IP address, it would be for your router, not your computer (which, when behind a router, has an internal IP like 192.168.1.101).

April 13, 2009 at 10:41 am #174267Doris KenneyParticipantAre you concerned about a particular person getting your IP address? Or just anyone in general? Just being online at all exposes you to the possibility of someone finding your IP address at any given moment (if someone wanted to that is). IP address is located in email information, but we all send them on a daily basis.
Like Ven0m said, even having your IP address really doesn’t do the average person much good. Even with the some sleuthing, about the most you’ll likely find out (unless it happens to be a business IP address) is a general location and an ISP provider. And if someone has enough skills to do more with it, then they could probably find the IP other ways if they wanted to.

April 21, 2009 at 11:39 am #174270realbootingssMemberif someone really wanted your ip netstat can show your ip when they message. and if someone was good at it they could dosserr your ip . best bet bro. know who you message and trust. if you dont trust them talk in a lobby some where not messenger. that will help some.
April 21, 2009 at 10:34 pm #174264imported_Ven0mMemberNope, you only get the Yahoo server IP when using netstat in an instant message session. You have to be in a direct peer-to-peer connection before using netstat to obtain your IP. There’s ways to disable p2p connections in Messenger so that should protect you fairly well.
If you’re over paranoid, you can use a proxy (SOCKS or HTTP) when logging into Messenger.

July 14, 2009 at 9:24 pm #174265imported_Ven0mMemberWell, I’m sorry you lost your ID but we won’t allow discussion of illegal activities here, which includes trying to obtain a person’s IP address, sorry. If you lost your ID and you have your secret question and other information used when you signed up for the ID, then you may be able to recover it. If you don’t then honestly you’re wasting your time and the ID’s gone.
July 23, 2009 at 12:16 pm #174260Jeff HesterKeymasterUnfortunately NO, as this breeches privacy laws, since if you have someones IP address you can easily perform various illegal activities such as IP tracing and then hunting a person down.
