DeadAIM users,
Due to information that has been disclosed prematurely, it is necessary for JDennis.net to issue this statement and address recent issues regarding AOL.
AOL recognises the value that DeadAIM adds to AOL Instant Messenger and recently contacted JDennis.net to discuss how we could work together. Based on those discussions, DeadAIM and AOL have entered into a relationship and have agreed to work together on future projects.
What does that mean to you as a DeadAIM user? Well, at the moment it doesn’t mean much at all. What it does mean is that DeadAIM users can feel secure in the knowledge that AOL has no intention of mounting legal action against JDennis.net and that DeadAIM will not be sued out of existence. We hope that working closely with AOL will improve the credibility of JDennis.net Ltd while continuing to provide a top quality instant messaging experience for AIM users.
We are sure that many of you have questions but please understand that many of the details are as yet undecided and it is premature to share specifics at this time.
Thanks again for supporting DeadAIM!

This means that you people stealing deadaim 4.0 because its “not legal in the first place” do not have a excuse anymore. As this statement says AOL currently approves Deadaim.
This also means that Aim might have drastic changes in the future, all for the good anyway. Lets hope they come as soon as possible because aim needs help in order too keep in the race with Msn and Yahoo messenger.
August 26, 2003 at 8:11 am #91241CharlesMemberWell, we all know that this means that Dead AIM will soon be the intellectual property of AOL. Maybe J.Dennis will get his own cubical.
August 26, 2003 at 12:19 pm #91249ShadowSlayer469MemberGood, I’m glad that they are thinking about teaming up, that would be great! Hopefully AOL will not charge too much to use DeadAIM, or what ever they re-name it. Although they are undecided, I do think that AOL will either get rid of the ads, or make you pay extra to get rid of them.
August 26, 2003 at 1:59 pm #91242rockerjockMemberits both good and bad. for one, we dont really have to worry about AOL shutting down DeadAIM. on the other, if AOL ends up buying DeadAIM, we may have to spend more and they might make it so all other versions dont work. though i imagine if Jdennis would sell it to AOL, there would be a part in the contract that would make it so the old versions of DeadAIM still work. and they both could help each other and make AIM much better so i look forward to see wut happens with this

so does this mean its gonna be free now or they are gonna go after people with free deadaim?
August 26, 2003 at 3:34 pm #91235Jeff HesterKeymasterDoes this mean that AOL ownz DeadAIM? 😉
Actually, I’m confused by exactly what it means. Obviously it validates the place for third-party IM add-ons. It seems like AOL could easily develop any of those feature themselves, so I’m not sure that they NEED DeadAIM’s technology. Maybe they want to tap into the “cool” factor and the slightly rebellious attitude behind the “this-is-my-messenger-and-I-can-tweak-it-any-way-I-want” crowd?
Jim’s message seems to indicate that AOL had applied some legal pressure on him, but we obviously won’t hear more about that now.
August 26, 2003 at 6:53 pm #91240CharlesMemberI think it is all a plot to bring J.Dennis down. Why would AOL, the company that took away smiler, suddenly be open to an IM addon? It is putting J.Dennis into a corner that he can’t escape. Infact, he is already there. He really had no choice but to agree to AOL’s proposal. This shows that AOL has already begun forcing their ideas upon J.Dennis. J.Dennis had two choices, join the enemy, or get sued into oblivion. AOL is not stupid, they were either going to control a part of it, or make it go away. The smiler was technology they had that we didn’t (that the smiler enabled us to take hold of), AOL shut that down. Now, it is reverse, who knows what AOL could do when it wants a piece of technology. Plus, they couldn’t just add all of those features to AIM 6, they have to eliminate the competition. By coming to an agreement, this puts AOL in position to step foward with its plans. Oh, and BTW, I read in the J.Dennis forums that some nut went to AOL about how J.Dennis was selling software to enhance AOL’s product. AOL’s response was that they would handle it. I see the end of DeadAIM is upon us.

P.S. – Don’t ask. I mean it!
