Ive tried a lot of add-ons for MSN Messenger, but most end up unused after the intial amusement value wears off. But Patchous Messenger Plus! has always been different.
Messenger Plus! is a valuable tool that extends the functionality of MSN and Windows Messenger for every home and business user with truly useful functions. This latest version makes Messenger Plus! compatible with both Windows Messenger 4.7 and MSN Messenger 5.0. It has been completely recoded from the ground up, and has a very professional look-and-feel. Using it for a while, its hard to believe that its freeware!
Whats new in MP2 (as fans call it)? Enhanced logging, include an event log that provides some interesting reading. Theres an instant lock feature that allows you to lock Messenger without logging out; especially useful when someone else needs to use the computer but you dont want them snooping in your Messenger session.
Theres a excellent contact list management tool that helps you weed out contacts who no longer log in or whom you no longer chat with. Makes me wonder why none of the big four instant messengers havent incorporated this much-needed feature before.
You can also associate unique sounds with any of your contacts, so you can be notified when they come online. Simple, but slick and honestly useful. I wont use this for all of my contacts, but for a few special friends and associates, its a plus.
Of course the quick icons, including the “secret” emoticons, are still there, as are the quick text messages. Personalized status messages, POP3 mail checking and a few other goodies Ill let you discover on your own.
All-in-all, Messenger Plus! 2 is a solid, well-conceived and well-designed add-on that deserves a download. Check it out, then share your thoughts on MP2 in our forums.
Note: Patchous web site has been overun by traffic and is currently down, but his forums are still up at http://msgplus.mybboard.com
