MTV Messenger to Launch in 6 Languages This Fall
London/New York, 10 September 2001 – MTVi Europe, the online division of MTV Networks Europe, which is owned by Viacom International Inc. (NYSE: VIA, VIA.B), and Odigo, Inc., the leading provider of instant messaging and presence solutions to wireless carriers, Telcos, ISPs, and portals worldwide, announced today that they have partnered to develop the MTV Messenger – a new instant messenger communications tool for its customised MTV Web sites in Europe. Powered by the critically acclaimed Odigo IM (instant messenger) platform, the MTV Messenger will be available to download free of charge in six languages this fall.
The MTV Messenger will leverage Odigo¡äs latest advancements in IM technology, including enabling IM accessibility and interoperability across a wide range of wire-line and wireless devices. The MTV Messenger will enable users to build and manage buddy lists, send and receive instant
messages, seek compatible chat partners and new friends by nterest or demographic, and spot fellow MTV IM users wherever and whenever they are online. Users will also be able to communicate with the general Odigo population and users of other networks, such as ICQ, AOL and Yahoo! Messenger. Additional details will be announced in the coming weeks.Similar to MTVi Europes other new media applications such as SMS, WAP and PDAs, the MTV Messenger will offer companies innovative sponsorship and banner advertising opportunities to reach the 16-34 year-old youth demographic. Advertising and sponsorships will be sold through MTV Networks Europe.
