As many of you have heard, bin Laden has sent a message to us citizens of the US on how to avoid another Sept. 11.
What are your opinions on this?
I believe that bin Laden is trying to weasel his way into our election, where he does not belong, and influence our opinions. After reading the transcripts in the newspapers, I feel even more strongly about this.
If you have been in the dark the past weekend, you can read about it in your local paper or check out a site like cnn.com

Some people say he is being genuine, that more attacks on the same scale as 9/11 will happen, whereas some say he is just trying to unsettle the election. Personally, I agree with the second opinion, however Al Queda are capable of launching an attack.
There was one person on the TV who stated that Bin Laden was the most influential person in world politics. To me, this was quite an interesting observation.

Unsettling the election in the way that he perhaps attempted to change the minds of some of the American people. It was just what I heard on the news, i’m not sure quite how to convey it.
November 1, 2004 at 9:42 pm #103618neo_ny_23Memberwell in my opinion, Osama was right when he said that its neither Bush nor Kerry who can ensure America’s security, but their own foreign policy. Even after almost 3 or 4 years of September 11, he is hiding somewhere, looking healthy without any tension or serious problems, means that he is been taken good care of. And this makes me think, that if Saddam Hussein couldnt survive in his own country and was caught, then how the hell Osama is still hiding, unless some country is supporting him? Sources say that he is still hiding in the posh areas of Karachi, Islamabad, and other big cities in Pakistan since most of the Al Qaida ppl were caught not in the urban areas where the Pakistani Army are raging “War against Terroris” but in the posh areas of the big cities itself. And if this is true, isnt it ridiculous and irony that a country like pakistan which is harbouring terrorists and protecting them is America’s “Front ally” in the war against terrorism?

Looks like the Middle East Media Research Institute may not agree.
November 2, 2004 at 12:54 am #103619gossipingraeMemberFrom what I read, bin Laden is pretty much trying to tell our people that Bush has not protected America since the attacks. He also said that Bush Sr. passed along his ideas to his son, and that G.W. practiced cheating and being unfair when asked for a Florida recount. So yeah, I believe he is trying to persuade voters.
November 2, 2004 at 1:39 pm #103613QwertyMemberHe was burning the US and because he was burning the US why not burn their leader? I’m sure it can’t be the fact that supports kerry.

Check this website: http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/articleshow/msid-905832,curpg-1.cmsOsama is still on the run because the US military foolishly outsourced the job of capturing him to the Afghanistan military.

Actually, had you been paying attention at the time this all happened….their ONLY choice to avoid a conflict with local warlords and losing him COMPLETELY was to incorporate them in the operation. UNFORTUNATELY, since the warlords are still a roaming people they have other values that most modern people do not have. One of these is that they will make a “deal” with someone, agree to it, then go with someone who promises them MORE of something and completely ignore the first deal. Of course it was, goodness, almost FOUR years since this happened…people tend to forget things that aren’t in their faces.
In addition, Colin Powell just said LAST week that they know VERY well where Osama is and that they are monitoring his movements. They’ve known where he is a LONG time. They just cannot get to him at the moment. The IMPORTANT thing to remember in this election is not to let the media-EITHER way they swing- influence your vote. ALSO, the BL*ODY political ads that are neverending (UNTIL TODAY!! THANK GOD!!). You should know the FACTS, we as Americans (unfortunately) have become too lazy to look at the facts as they are. At LEAST two political foreign leaders have actually endorsed Bush (Berlusconi and Putin, the latter by the way is VERY knowledgable in US History and politics). They feel that the world would be safer with Bush in power and that would send a stronger message to the terrorists that we have a strong country who supports our leader.EDIT: And to bring this around back to the topic. Bin Laden is most certainly trying to throw a wrench into the US election, who can forget what happened in Madrid??

What happened in Madrid?
November 4, 2004 at 5:08 pm #103616Crazy PenguinMemberDo you not watch the news?
For your information al-quaeda let off a couple of bombs at stations in madrid at peak times, quite a lot of people were kille dor injured… don’t knwo the exact figures over 1000 killed wasnt it?
anyway as a result many spanish voters turned against the ruling party who had sent spanish troops (which I think al-qaueda said was the reason why they attacked spain), and voted them out of power in the election which occured shortly afterwards, this new party withdrew troops from iraq.
