Yesterday, my friend and I were forced to download Windows live messenger 2009. We play spades regularly on zone.com. Using messenger, he issues an invitation so we can play as partners on the same table. After the download, I was unable to see the invite, he sent it, but it was not there. I can issue an invite, but in order for it to work he has to turn “protect” off on his computer. What can I do so I can receive and see the invitation? Any information or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I’m a little confused by what “protect” you are saying your contact has to turn off. Is that in WLM or is it game specific?
September 17, 2009 at 2:19 am #175804Pookie12MemberHe has vista, and in order to receive an invite from me (for the spades) and in order for it to work so he can get to the table, he has to turn protect off. Protect is part of his vista program, assuming it is a security feature. Im just not sure why i cannot receive an invite at this point….. We are also shunning internet explorer 8 for as long as we can.

As for why you can’t see the invites. Do you have the latest version of both Flash and Java?
I would agree, I don’t care for IE8. At some point it will be necessary but right now I prefer IE7 as well.
Let me know if your contact wants to shut off UAC and whether Flash and Java updates help your invite issue.

September 18, 2009 at 11:18 pm #175805Pookie12MemberI downloaded both Java and Flash, and I still cannot see the invite. I still have ie7. I mentioned the UAC thing to my friend, but either he overlooked it or doesnt want to do this. So I am hoping to fix my end, before the new messenger, I was able to receive invites. Any other suggestions please?

You can check this directly via this link:

It is only since we downloaded the new version that i cannot see the invite that has been issued. Help!!
September 19, 2009 at 11:07 pm #175802Doris KenneyParticipantThat was the only solution I could find. Perhaps someone else will have more suggestions for you.
September 23, 2009 at 12:02 am #175803Pookie12MemberThanks for your advice, but for now its resolved. I was able to download WM 8.5 and so far can sign in no problem, and receive invites from the zone. All good til they force more on us….
September 23, 2009 at 12:09 am #175798Doris KenneyParticipantI’ll cross my fingers that it holds out for you for at least a little while! 🙂
September 24, 2009 at 10:06 pm #175807Pookie12MemberLol i dont really need to tell you this, but the messenger is still working. Now, though, the zone has pulled the invite window lol. I guess there were so many problems theyre pulling it until they fix it. Hope its not too long, pogo.com has spades, but the different graphics and such? Its just not the same!!!!!
