Alright, lemme tell you ’bout a story ’bout a chick named Sam. Her mother wouldn’t leave her the heck alone unless she figured out why Mozilla FireFox keeps deleting all of her favorites after about a week.
Any clues, kids?
Aparently she bookmarks/favorites the things and a week later, it’s whiped clean again.

MyIE2 BEST BROWSER OUT THERE…..
August 15, 2004 at 4:58 am #39891f0rbezMemberAre you using any kind of cleaning app like Windows Washer? Sometimes they remove stuff that shouldn’t be.

dude. that’s not an answer, that’s an alternative.
well, before I try to guess at solutions, we’ll need some more information from you. what operating system are you running? i’ll assume XP? what version of firefox are you running? the newest v9? are you running any adware/spyware scans that might be deleting the bookmarks? is this happening on a predictable cycle, like at 5pm on sunday (or whenever) you know its gonna delete them?
meanwhile, until someone comes up with an answer, here’s a workaround. every once in a while (like once a day maybe) backup your bookmarks. go to Bookmarks > Manage Bookmarks, then File > Export to save the file bookmarks.html somewhere on your computer (i’d recommend somewhere other than the firefox folder, like maybe “My Documents.” its not a fix, but its a start
August 15, 2004 at 10:24 am #39889RabidKittenParticipantShe’s running 98 se, actually…*oy* and she’s using the newest foxfire, and the only deal she’s got on there is ad aware (I can’t believe she was running without one up until last week) and the cycle is unpredictable.
Thanks for the work around, I’ll write that down for her since she’s…well…my mother, heheh. I appreciate it.
And Dude…thanks for taking up pointless space and being of no help what so ever. Oy Vey…
August 15, 2004 at 1:25 pm #39892f0rbezMemberGo to Help > About Mozilla Firefox, and copy/paste the version info located at the bottom of the window. “newest firefox” doesn’t really help because they release nightly builds. But I’m assuming you have the last 0.9.3 major release.
If you want to try a newer build and see if maybe it was a resolved bug, download the latest build from here.
Something else that might be causing a problem are bad extensions. If you have any installed, remove them and see if the bookmarks still disappear.
August 15, 2004 at 3:12 pm #39885OreoMemberYou know what it might be is the new ad-aware. If she removes the “negligible” files that gets rid of history and things like that. Just a thought of something you might want ot look into further. I know what it’s like with mother’s…mine just learn how to use a mouse the other day. [:O]

no, cause I have the newest firefox and the newest ad-aware, and I dont lose my bookmarks. I even make sure that ad-aware purges all the “negligible” files like recent file lists and all. so it’s gotta be something else. i’ll have to look into this more in a few hours when I get home, since I dont want this happening to me
August 17, 2004 at 1:36 am #39890RabidKittenParticipantYeah, this stuff started happening before I went and dled ad aware se. who knows, bah, it’s just annoying to hear her come to me every day. I love the lady but when she has about a million and a quarter favorites…oy vey, even a super computer couldn’t keep up.
Never the less, thanks for all your help, I’ll see if anything helps.
*giggle* Just learned how to use the mouse?? Goodness! Yeah, my mother’s not that bad. At 50 years old, she knows more about computers than most mothers at that age, which is both good and bad. Well, good for me because I can explain things to her, bad for my siblings because they can’t get away with as much as most kids, heheh. Poor them.
August 17, 2004 at 4:11 am #39894mdandeMemberi have had this same prob and havent found the answer. what it does to me is say I need to make a new user for the browser and wont let me use the default user.. the best thing I have been able to come up with is bookmark all of your pages with IE then u can inport them everytime firefox misplaces them. I dont think it has anything to do with spyware or any of the spyware cleaners. it has done it to me sence I started useing firefox 3 months ago.
August 17, 2004 at 4:45 am #39893f0rbezMemberWhy don’t you try making a new user than?
This might be helpful until you fix the problem.
Bookmark Backup Extension.August 17, 2004 at 5:01 am #39888TigerbladeParticipantf0rbez… I thought about the same thing with that extension, but then if they open up the browser, see that all the bookmarks are gone, then close it…. same problem as before. of course it does save them with a special extension for each day, but that poses two problems I can think of:
1. it has no effect if you open firefox twice in one day, but the second time all the bookmarks are gone.
2. it would mean a lot of backup files, unless you want to go in and delete old ones periodically -
