This is about as Random and Off Topic as one could possibly get, but I’m going to mention it anyway since it’s been a big part of my life more currently.
Right, well, there is an organization in my town (Rochester, MN) that is known as The Rochester Girls, Inc that my roomate belongs to. Really, they’re “Female Illusionists” “Female Impersonators” “Drag Queens”, whatever. Just recently they’ve been getting more and more out there in our town and getting a lot of attention (Both Positive and Negative) from the city. Putting on shows open to the public, participating in the Miss Gay South East MN Pageant, making appearances at the local GLBT dances, sponsoring a Drag Queen Bingo night at the Senior Center, things like that.
The Rochester Girls are a really great group of girls (Yes, when they’re “In Face” they refere to themselves as girls), my roomate being one of them, so I get to tag along to the functions sometimes, which is pretty exciting. They put on some really great shows. Sure, it’s just lip syncing, but they’re great performers and illusionists (I swear I forgot that my roomate’s “drag sister” was a boy at one point! Who BTW, is the reigning Miss Gay SE MN, Helyn Ducatti so she’s pretty darn good) and generally are just a bunch of interesting characters, sometimes with even more interesting names. C’mon, where else could you get away with a name like “Prada Diamond” and not get made fun of?
But that’s not my point here. I was at their last show at the Radisson, looking at all the fun masquerade dresses and everything (Which I was pretty crazy dolled up for and looking foxy, if I do say so. I went as a girl *for once*) and I got to wondering if the gay community is as out there in other places as they are in Rochester.
I know that there’s a statewide pageant in almost every state and then a national competition, but does the community really know about it, or do they even have public shows and dances and things open to the general public? So really I thought I’d ask and find out *chuckles* Are there any drag shows where you’re from? And really, would any of you show up to them if there were?

Gay men who dress as women. *hands him a copy of “To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar” and “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”*

Anyways, he does drag (nowhere in Bloomsburg, I don’t think) and I’ve seen pictures of him, and I do have to say that he is a very attractive “woman” when he’s all dressed up!
The last picture I saw of him, he dressed up as a Geisha girl. It was soo neat!
I’m gonna miss him when he graduates though 🙁
April 15, 2005 at 2:19 pm #119423Jeff HesterKeymasterAround the area I live at, there are no drag queen shows. You’d probably get your *** kicked for dressing up like that. Lot of, shall I say, malevolent people down here who don’t tolerate that. The only place I can think of where they can do that safely is South Beach which is what some people down here refer to as SAG beach. (Sodom and Gomorrah) That’s the only place I know of that has it and no I wouldn’t show up to one.

You guy’s will have to come up and see one! MAY 14!!! hehehehe
