BBC has a story which reports a very serious ID theft scam that was uncovered very recently. Using a Trojan, all information from Internet Explorer’s Web Form AutoComplete was extracted — given the perpetrators access to usernames, passwords, credit cards, bank accounts, and potentially anything else that was accessed with IE using a form.
Don’t ever use AutoComplete, and don’t ever save any passwords locally on your machine!
Or better don’t use Internet Explorer or better yet don’t use Windows;)August 25, 2005 at 9:46 pm #128586MartinBradleyMemberAutoComplete is a feature which is supposed to ensure that the user does not have to enter a website address in everytime they wish to visit that page. It’s a feature that most browsers have, and personally, if you’re careful enough, then the security threat is very minimal.

AutoComplete can be enabled/disabled by Tools > Internet Options > Content > AutoComplete.

The point of this news story is that something that has been thought of as secure is not. Trojans and keyloggers have always been a danger, AutoComplete has been seen as safe (to most anyway, I never used it for this reason)
