Ok, i went home for a weekend a few weeks ago, and my roommate had some people over… apparently they went on my computer for a few hours (without my knowledge) and went through a few sites… normally i wouldnt be completely opposed to this, but seems they visited a porn site too, and the URL is stuck in the dropdown address bar. so far i’ve cleaned out the temporary internet files, the cookies, i’ve searched the registry, i’ve run spybot, everything i can think of, but no luck… anyone ever run into this sort of thing? i want it gone…
December 7, 2003 at 12:26 pm #87641rustedtightMemberDo you have software such as ‘Go Back’ that will allow you to revert to a build prior to the time your ‘friends’ used your computer?
Alternately you may let the porn intro’s run and note the URL’s as shown on the tool bar, then later you can use those address’s within regedit to search for registry entries that will cause those addy’s to be loaded….. and then delete them.
2nd alternate .. I understand from a victim like yourself that there is a limited number of times those sites will load… Just ignore them and eventually they will go away.:D

that cleanup site just doesnt quite seem right to me, while it may be a legit utility, i’m gonna have to pass on it…
December 9, 2003 at 5:19 am #87642detn8rParticipantHow annoying. I have search’s, autocompletes, and google search’s all still visible after “being cleaned out”. IE6 here too. I’d also like to know whats going on.
December 9, 2003 at 6:07 am #87644BrianMemberI don’t know if you’d find this to be helpful. I had gone through this several times in the past. What I’d do instead of reformatting the computer, is to create another user account on my Windows XP and transfer everything over to the second account in just minutes then delete my main user account. But if you are going to create another user account, I suggest that you check if you still have the same problems on the new account before deleting your previous account.
December 9, 2003 at 6:17 am #87650TigerbladeParticipanti’m not sure if that works, since i’m the administrator of my computer… any other account i create wouldnt be. and that wouldnt be good at all… oh well… appears i’m stuck with it [:o]
December 9, 2003 at 6:23 am #87646ladie_vennomMemberYou can create another account on XP as an administrator. You can have two, i do.
December 9, 2003 at 11:39 am #87643BrianMemberYeah when you create new user account, you should get the next page that ask you to pick which type of account (computer administator and limited) you want.
December 9, 2003 at 4:12 pm #87649TigerbladeParticipanthmm… interesting…. i somehow didnt know that until now. ya learn something new every day. i may have to try that if nothing else works
December 9, 2003 at 6:57 pm #87648TigerbladeParticipantok i found a program that works, its only a trial version but it seems to have done the job… if anyone else has this problem, check out Smart Protector. i was a little wary at first but i took the chance… it works… yay.
