Well, I’d like to announce to all you (future) programmers out there, that Microsoft has introduced Visual Studio 2005 Beta (VB8 (VB7 was VB .NET 2003)) to the world. While it’s in Beta, it will be available as a free download. Microsoft also plans to keep an ‘express’ version available as a free download, even when the final release comes out.
Download VB8 from my server
Download other Visual Studio 2005 components from the labs at MSDN.My link is direct, but it is only a downloader. When you run the program, depending on what you choose, you will have to download 50+ MB of data, using the installer.

January 9, 2005 at 8:17 pm #111591SpikeMemberSo what? Maybe you kenw about it, but others didn’t? I’m just trying to let people know and offer them a download.
January 9, 2005 at 8:21 pm #111590colinMemberWhoa that is very weird. I just found out the exact same thing yesterday, when I was going to the Microsoft site to see why VB6 wouldn’t install on my computer. I can’t wait to use the new one (once I actually use VB6 first)

In general it’s better than 2003 IMO. [2003 lags on every computer I’ve ever used it on, including a 3.4Ghz/1gb – it has issue]
January 9, 2005 at 11:04 pm #111588CharlesMemberThis is old…from your post Spike, it does sound like it was just released yesterday while it has been around for months.
You say the express version will be free even when it is completed, but Microsoft has said they will be “low-cost and will continue to be easy to acquire.” So they will not be free, but they are for the beta…much like Visual Studio Professional is. (but you pay S & H)
The whole Visual Studio 2005 looks promising, Microsoft has a great piece of software on their hands…much better than 2003 in my opinion. I’ve used VS 2005 Professional Beta 1 which I have CDs for…not the express betas, but they can’t be much different. A worthwhile download. 🙂
