Hi,
I have a windows 2000 professional sytem. I have yahoo messenger in my home system. I have installed Trend Micro PC-Cillin personal firewall in the system. I am not able to do voice chat. But text chat has no problem. Whenever I try to do voice chat by pressing the Hands free check box, it tries for few secs and the following message is poped up: ‘Voice Error: trouble connecting to voice server. Attempting to reconnect.’ I have given the hostname and all possible ip addresses I got from yahoo site in the allow list. But I couldn’t find any settings in firewall to unblock the port 5050 which yahoo chat uses. Still I am not able to do voice chat. But at some times I could able to hear the voice from the buddy at the other end and it breaks after some time. Can anyone suggest an exact solution to fix it.Thanks in advance

Sometimes ISP’s block certain ports to protect against viruses/trojans/worms etc. It’s a cheap, inexpensive way to protect a network, but it (obviously) creates bad customer service feedback. The usual response of an ISP when asked “Do you have my voice ports blocked?” Is “Sir, we usually don’t block ports.” Keep hassling your ISP and they will break. Ask if you can have a direct port connection to the yahoo/aol/msn voice server (whichever you use) and they should comply. This being, of course, if port blocking is the problem.
