Ok, I’m sure you’ve heard of Longhorn being renamed. My question is what exactly does this mean? Are we talking a new windows os? I know XP was originally whistler. I can’t find much on the web…and yes I know it’s early, but I thought some of the computer gurus on the forum might be able to enlighten us. Anyone have any info?
July 23, 2005 at 7:33 pm #126566imported_EvilSephMemberWindows Vista, formerly known as Codename: Longhorn is a revolutionary new Operating System from Microsoft. The changes they’ve made and the features they’ve added truly amaze me. I can’t wait for it to go into Beta.
July 23, 2005 at 8:01 pm #126561Jeff HesterKeymasteryou can read all about the product name here (with added hilarious comments): Longhorn’s Offical Name is Windows Vista. read all about longhorn/vista at the Longhorn Activity Center over at Paul Thurrott’s SuperSite for Windows

s–t if you ask me. The codename was better than Vista!July 24, 2005 at 5:40 am #126563detn8rParticipantSounds too European to be honest. But hell, it’s a lot more creative than a year or simply “XP”.

Anyway, I heard that Microsoft gets their codes names from some mountain in some country, I had an article on it awhile back, but I lost it. Whistler was a ski lodge or something, Longhorn is a coffee shop or something… I am sure my correlations are totally off, but I am not lying, I really saw an article about this, it was more of a Windows encylepedia, but still.

Some country… pfft!July 25, 2005 at 6:29 am #126565EEDOKMembername change may be pending due to law suits from Vista, a linux service provider.
