Hey guys, I just recently came home from college for the summer and I noticed that my internet has been very SLOW! We have Road Runner High Speed Cable internet, and I after running a the CNET online bandwidth test, I am only getting dial-up speeds. Also, when browsing the web, when I KNOW I am connected to the internet, both Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox have issues rendering pages and they both act as if I was not connected to the internet. Any ideas on what is going on here?
We are using a Belkin F5D8236-4 (N-Router) with WEP protection. And my laptop is a Dell XPS M1530 running an Intel Wireless card.
What happens when you plug the laptop into the router via cable? What happens when you plug the laptop directly into the modem? Have you tried restarting the router?
When connected directly into the modem, my computer doesn’t even connect the internet. While connected to the router, the internet speed is definitely faster, as expected and seems to have less trouble rendering web pages. And yes I have tried restarting the router.
