October 27, 2004 at 7:42 pm #14378Jeff HesterKeymaster[/rightMy friend isayx3 showed me this instant messaging client for online gamers called Xfire. It uses a proprietary network, but lets you easily hookup with other gamers and launch a wide range of games. It lets you track friends and servers, and keeps gaming stats.
Some of the most popular games supported include Counter-Strike, Wolfenstein, Battlefield Vietnam, Warcraft III, Lineage II, and Star Wars Galaxies. All-in-all over 200 games are supported.
There is also a cool mini-profile you can put on your website or in a forum signature that shows some of your game stats:
I signed up (look for bigblue) to check it out, and was curious if anyone else has run across it, and what your thoughts are.
October 27, 2004 at 7:58 pm #103235SathallrinMemberI tried out one of the original releases of this program about a year ago… It looked a LOT different back then. It was just a simple window, didn’t have all that fancy stuff. Wasn’t bad but I didn’t really need another messenger, so it didn’t last long for me. I thought I had first heard about it here on BBB, but I did a search and couldn’t find it… guess it might have been somewhere else.
October 28, 2004 at 8:34 pm #103238syntaxMemberI’ve been using it for a few weeks and it’s not bad. They had a recent skinning contest. I’m using the NVIDIA skin. Overall, it’s not a bad IM client for gaming.
October 31, 2004 at 9:36 pm #103237EvanMemberman its changed since its first was released hehe. I stopped using it after the first day it came out. one because non of my friends really wanted to use it and 2 we all use icq or aim to talk and counter-strike does have a crappy buddylist that rarly works but thats pretty much what we play. but looking at the new stuff they added I think its pretty neat. they also have rings were you can find random people to play games with. and ever have pros playing. if I rememebr right for counter-strike you could get a chance to play with one of the D-Skyline members a while back
October 31, 2004 at 10:54 pm #103239f0rbezMemberI’ve been using this for a while. Its really cool. Frequent updates can be annoying sometimes, but they’re worth it because they are constantly adding support for more games. This is a must have for gamers.
By the way, I’d like to see an ATI skin. :p
November 5, 2004 at 3:56 pm #103236OreoMemberI think it was here before…my husband tried, but like others he didn’t like it b/c most of his friends were on other IM’s AND then (as now) it doesn’t support the Total War games that he likes to play. But looking at the list again it does seem to have added quite a few more games…maybe I can get him interested in it again…though I think that would mean I’d see him less….mmm…I’ll get back to all of you on this…. 😉
