For months now I have’nt been able to use webcam on messenger. I always get the network error while connecting to server. I see my image though
as it always goes into idle mode. I tried it with my firewall off. My ISP has no proxy server. Ive uninstalled and tried version 5.0 still the problem persists. I need some ideas PLeasE! This is driving me nutty!January 27, 2003 at 4:47 am #98417Jeff HesterKeymasterWhere does the problem lie? Other people cannot see your webcam, or you can’t see other’s webcams?
Did it ever work correctly for you? If so, when did it stop working?
January 28, 2003 at 8:47 pm #98421creaturemanMemberWell I cant view anyone either, ill get the same error as when i try to start my webcam, ie problem connecting to server. Its seems like it happend about when i got cable ISP and got messenger 5.5 also its about the same time i started using norton personel firewall. Whats weird is it did work for a little while only one time about a month ago. Then it was back problem. Maybe my registry is messed up ?? I dont know? Thanx for any suggestions
January 28, 2003 at 9:20 pm #98416Jeff HesterKeymasterI suspect Norton Personal Firewall is the culprit. I haven’t used that software, so I can say for certain, but there usually is a way to configure it to allow certain applications to send or receive information from the Internet. Check the preferences or the online help.
Incidentally, according to Norton’s website Yahoo Messenger isn’t in their list of “supported” instant messengers.
January 30, 2003 at 2:56 am #98420creaturemanMemberWell I uninstalled norton and installed zone alarm and still no dice what firewalls are the most instant messager user friendly??? What kind do u use ???? I can get anykind np. Thanx
January 31, 2003 at 2:48 am #98428naylorvilleMemberI have the same problem when I try to view cams. There is a person here named “Mint sauce” who has the same problem. I dont have any kind of firewall what so ever on my machine. I was in a chatroom earlier today and another person said HE is having this exact same problem..and getting the exact same alert. The problem has to lie with the yahoo webcam server itself. There are to many people around the world having this problem. Many people are not affected but alot of other people are. Im going to contact the yahoo administrators and ask them if they know whats going on.
January 31, 2003 at 5:40 pm #98426Mint_SauceMemberYep im still having the same problem, but ONLY on my user area, my sisters user area on XP works fine. Throws another spanner in the works eh? 😀
January 31, 2003 at 6:06 pm #98425Mint_SauceMemberI’ve just done some investigation and went into my sisters area, found her yahoo entry in the registry and exported it then went into mine and imported it. I can log in under her name and use the webcam fine…! So I then tried with my usename / password and it still wont work, same error. Tried setting up a new account with different name etc and doesn’t work! I’m confused……
February 1, 2003 at 3:28 am #98427naylorvilleMemberthats good troubleshooting Mint…but I think its clear that the problem DOES NOT lie on our computers. I was in a chatroom today talking with people and asking them if they are having problems with viewing cams. There were about 4 people who say they know people on their friends list who are having this problem. Its everywhere..Its in the UK…and all over the US so far that I know. I dont know what happened but I heard that the internet got hit with a virus thats disrupting internet browsing all over the world. What ever this problem is with webcams its not gonna get fixed by something we do on our computers. Webcams work fine for me when Im on the comp at my job. There is probably some kind of common factor for the people who are affected…we just dont know what it is.
February 10, 2003 at 10:02 pm #98424Mint_SauceMemberIn which case I should be able to keep setting up loads of accounts and one should eventually work if it’s nothing to do with my PC…..
February 11, 2003 at 5:00 am #98418intranceMemberGot same problem too with webcam. For the first few months it works ok until recently. At first, it could not connect to network and then it could not start at all. Uninstall and reinstall both the webcam software and Yahoo, did not solved the problem. So I got myself a new hard disk and install on it, and it works. So I guess maybe the registry is the culprit.
February 11, 2003 at 9:16 pm #98432FireDudeMemberI am having trouble aswell however of a different sort. I posted this aswell in the MSN thread.
I have recently upgraded from 98SE (running Norton 2003 AV and ZA pro) to XP Pro. When I was on 98 everything worked fine. I could use my cam in msn, yahoo and eyeball chat. no after upgrading if I:
– try to use the cam in the logitech software I get an error saying that it is being used by another program.
– If I am in msn and try to start a cam session all I get is a black cam window and then my comp freezes
– If I am in yahoo I get an error saying that I am behind a firewall and can’t use the webcam service. I have eamiled yahoo and they gave me therquired info to enter into ZA but that still didn’t work and I don’t have a proxy server.
– Eyeball chat will work for a second then my image on the persons comp that is veiwing my cam freezes then my whole comp freezes.I have unistalled and reinstalled the drivers and software for the cam (it is a logitech quick cam I believe) and no help there.
Anyone with any ideas?:(
Thanks for your help,
😀February 13, 2003 at 10:45 am #98433Wake_rider325MemberOne did you get new drivers off of http://www.logitech.com if not i would do that for sure and i would make sure you have downloaded all the updates for XP….there is a bunch of them.
If your behind a Linksys router and you downloaded and installed DIRECT X 9 I would update your Router firmware to the latest upgrade. For some reason it DX9 with older firmware messes up MSN and other applacations, don’t ask me how.
Try this and if it does’t work for you please reply.
February 13, 2003 at 6:33 pm #98431FireDudeMemberThe drivers I downloaded were from logitech but the updates for XP I will have to check that. I know I havn’t installed the Service pack 1 for XP yet. That I will do ASAP. My firewall is Zone Alarm Pro and when I was on 98 everything worked fine. Maybe it is the upgrades for XP that I need I am not sure. You would think it would work for other progams that are not MS products but maybe not.
Thanks for the tips I will reply when I install all updates.
