Yahoo! Messenger Display Images are never stored on your PC in Yahoo! Messenger.
If you had a folder with pictures in it it was probably overwritten when you installed the new build.
This is common in Yahoo! Chat and IM Networks and has been for many years.
Set your IM’s to friends only or Use a third party application to filter out the Spam.
Hard to say without looking at your settings and your sound card/chip settings on laptop.
If i was to fathom a guess I’d say either it’s a device setting effecting the calling on the laptop, do other calling applications like Skype work?
Did you run the audio and video setup wizard in Yahoo! Messenger?
This is obviously a clipboard issue as yahoo’s new smiley panel uses your systems clipboard.
The smiley panel in the chatroom window, does it do the same?

SideBySide errors are typically caused by the current Microsoft Visual C++ version not being backward compatible with the application that failed.
Depending on how old your computer is, you can try re-installing C++ runtime distributable.
If your machine is 32bit it would use x86 or if it’s 64bit it will use x64

Sounds like a IE control issues and i know XP only supports up to ie 8?
Yahoo messenger uses the IE control for it’s chat and IM screens.
Did you do a full uninstall of each version before putting on another?
I’d depend on the service for true online status.
If yahoo contacts show online/offline on Yahoo! messenger then i’d imagine it’s correct been the true client to their server.
WLM just uses what it gets the brief time from the yahoo service servers, I wouldn’t go by it but i would for Live friends statuses.
But both services are not flawless and can have issues with “stuck” ids every now and then.
