I’ve tried to download it from the official site a couple times and all I get is the old version. (Filename: INSTALL_MSN_MESSENGER_9X.EXE) Yet I tried it from my fiance’s computer running XP and got version 7.5. (Install_MSN_Messenger.exe). Does 7.5 require XP??? I haven’t read that anywhere. Sorry if I missed it.

You can now add somebody’s phone number and send a message to them. However, I’ve tried a couple friends–including me–on Cingular and I am unable to send messages to them. Cingular is listed as a supported carrier: http://join.msn.com/?page=messenger/mmt&pgmarket=en-us&ST=1&xAPID=1983&DI=1402

I found this by accident—BEFORE it was posted here—and am so far very pleased with it. No compatibility problems noted running on Win98SE.

The Beta page states “The Beta trail has ended.” 🙁

Darn! I was updating a bunch of my software yesterday and ran across this, then saw the article on this site today. I tried the link on the original post, but they removed the file from the FTP server.
