It’s been that way for several weeks now. Entirely a Yahoo system issue.
mfenechMemberI’ve heard someone ask me about this same problem…unless error999 IS the same person I talked to.

This is a post consisting of the most common bugs with Yahoo! Messenger. If anyone wishes to report a bug to us, please post here. =)
- Chat word censor is always on, regardless of setting the filter setting to ‘None’.
Workaround: At the current time, you can turn it off for only the session (meaning once you exit it, it resets). You can navigate to your C:Program FilesYahoo!Messenger directory, and open filter1.enc in Notepad and remove everything inside and save it.
Another workaround: Close YM completely, open your registry editor (regedit or other), do a Find for the term wordfilter as it relates to YM, change its setting from 1 to 0, (this may appear twice for Messenger, but only one of the entries will be set to 1), close the registry editor. The word filter, if set to None, should now work properly until YM is ever reinstalled on the PC.
Important: The usual disclaimers, caveats, and cautions apply to manually editing the registry. Backup your registry prior to doing the above fix. Rule of thumb: If you don’t know how to backup your registry, then don’t attempt to change it.
mfenechMemberDermot,
Doesn’t that notice message mean they’re working on their web page network? I don’t think it has to do with their chat system. Besides, this room access problem has been going on for several weeks now….certainly seems no different today than it was yesterday.
mfenechMemberOne new development:
I’ve been playing with YTK Lite for almost a week, and I don’t have the voice problem when I use it. I’ll ask Adam if he knows why.

This has been happening a long time.
I believe you’re actually seeing someone in the rooms buddy reports
That’s kinda strange, because:
1. A number of ‘ghosts’ I’ve seen are bots.
2. Most of the names I’ve checked are oriental (I can’t read their profile pages.) or are very young (20 or below), and I always park in various 40’s rooms.mfenechMemberIt’s probably the biggest mystery glitch from Yahoo in the last year.
From what I’ve noticed, you will only see them while you’re in a room. I haven’t seen any patterns as to what name shows up and in what circumstance, although the names appears right when they log in. And yes, the PM window will look as if it’s an online name currently on your friends list, including status message, display image, music track selection, and cam availability.
If the name looks interesting, I’ll click it before it disappears and may even strike up a conversation. Some names are bots, but most are real people. I’ve seen names of two people I knew already, one I knew from a few years ago and one I see in a music room regularly.
And I thought the term ‘Ghost’ meant a name that remains on a room list after the person was booted or otherwise disconnected abruptly.
mfenechMemberThanks.
mfenechMemberFriend with a newly purchased HP PC w/Vista says voice in the rooms does not work with the latest YM. She can turn voice on (she has ears) but can’t hear anything. Is she mistaken?
mfenechMemberThis really sucks.
I finally got around to installing YMLite and the problem happens with it too.
Another person approached me saying she had the same problem. She was using YM 7.0. I had her flush YM and install the latest 8.x, just to see what would happen. No change.
I go to rooms where voice chatting and playing music are fairly routine. It’s driving me nuts. I need a fix for this. :crying:
mfenechMemberHere’s mine 🙂
January 22, 2007 at 4:02 am in reply to: YTK Pro Now Available! *pre-release to release info tracking* #155862mfenechMemberI’m impressed with what you guys are doing. Especially noteworthy is the collaboration with Craig @YMLite. Please keep it up. I’ve pointed a few YTunnel users to it and one has purchased the pro version already. I’m waiting to get her feedback.
mfenechMemberAlthough there may be a known explanation for your specific problem, I would suggest you do the following:
1. Download the attached YRemover tool, courtesy of BBB resident expert Dermot. This flushes out all remnants of YM on your PC, including all registry entries. You don’t need to uninstall Messenger – just run it once (takes about 20 sec to complete), restart the PC, then run it again. Save the YRemover tool for future use.
2. Download and install YM 8.1, or go here to get any older version you prefer: Yahoo! Messenger at filehippo.com (If you do get an older version, you can delete the yupdater.exe file from program files/yahoo so you won’t see the update reminder every time you log in.)
3. Report back here if your problem continues.
I seem to spend more time on Yahoo helping people with PC and Messenger issues these days. I’m convinced a lot of Messenger problems out there result from users constantly going back and forth between versions every time something goes wrong. This results in conflicts in the registry, which Messenger doesn’t handle very gracefully, to say the least. A clean flush of YM and reinstall should eliminate it from being the problem. Good luck.
mfenechMemberYour dad is using the chat function within Gmail, as opposed to using the Google Talk program. You both have to be using the program for file transfers or voice chatting.
mfenechMemberSo how does this compare to YTunnel, which I would think is its closest competitor? I’ve never used it before myself.
