MemberThis is about myths and realities, so….
And besides, the FAQ is worthless without definitive answers. While I have confidence in the brain trust here, I'd still like to have a SME at Yahoo field some of the questions, if they're willing to do so.

MemberI request someone in the leadership here create a FAQ-type sticky thread called “YM Myths & Realities”, or words to that effect. It can cover items like the subject of this thread, and many others. For example:
How can someone get my IP address?
Can people tell if I'm online when I'm set to Invisible?
How do strangers know my webcam is on?
Can someone see my webcam without me knowing it?
Can someone record my webcam feed?
Why doesn't Yahoo fix booter exploits?
Why doesn't Yahoo do anything about bots?
Do the bot developers pay Yahoo? [my favorite]
How does Yahoo respond to complaints?
Will Yahoo Chat become a pay service?mfenech
MemberI actually find them quite valuable. Any chick who forwards me one of these gets used and abused by Dermot's Denial tool. If she's stupid enough to believe this kind of message, she's way too stupid for me. :p

MemberI was off YM for a month and didn't bother with this problem until this past week.
I flushed out YM using Yremover and reinstalled 7.5.0.814, which is what I've been using since the beginning of this year. The problem didn't go away. I've noticed that if no one in the room uses the mic for 30-45 seconds, I get no sound afterwards until I either reset voice in the room or go to another room. This happens in voice conferences also (which is no surprise since a VC functions exactly like any other canned room).
As to dermot's other suggestions, I don't use a router or a software firewall. I was thinking of installing YMLite just to test the problem on there. I wouldn't know how to redirect to other ports.
I could flush YM again and use the latest version, but I suspect the problem is elsewhere.

It could be the “unknown people coming on and off line bug”
I've clicked a few interesting names that appear this way and have actually made a friend through it. I would have never met her on Yahoo otherwise. Chance encounters, ya know? 😉

MemberCan't believe someone suggested Aramis. That's what all the Iranians wore (re. showered with) where I went to college.
A tip: Want to set yourself apart from the AdG/Curve crowd? Want something to drive the women nuts? Get Hanae Mori por homme, Rochas Man, or Angel Men. The secret/magic ingredient: Chocolate. Use very lightly, especially the Angel. Works any time of month, not just at ‘that time'. 😉

MemberThanks Tim…
That option only applies to messages from those on your friends list, and I've been using it already for years.

MemberYes, I meant as far as sound quality. This is even more evident when playing music over the voice connection, in which GTalk can sound like a good net radio stream, assuming you play direct off your sound card's mix mode instead of the microphone.
Aside from the variables you mention, I think the biggest difference is Yahoo and Skype are such resource hogs on the PC, and it shows during voice chats. I'm not complaining about GTalk – just curious what else is comparable.
