Congratulations! All of your hard work has been recognized. The best thing about BBB is its outstanding staff of knowledgeable, active folks. Maybe someday I will delve into this world of IM and get to know what you all are going on about. Right now I’m still an incredible newbie.
PolarBearNPRParticipantThe only time I stop to watch TV is for Scrubs, and sometimes The Dog Whisperer (we have an out-of-control mutt). Other than that, I’m known to watch The Fairly Odd Parents, Spongebob Squarepants, Mythbusters, Monk – in other words, I watch TV with my kids.
PolarBearNPRParticipantReally good stuff there! I think I pulled a muscle just watching it. Wow – lots of energy – and what a great routine.
Thanks for the post!
PolarBearNPRParticipantDitto what Tigerblade and WilliamLee said. As a parent and teacher of kids around your age, what worries me most about their on-line time is not what they seek to find (who wants to see the nasty stuff out there?), but rather the stuff you might stumble upon. You never know what a link may take you to, and I’m guessing your parents are trying to protect you from those stumbles just like they protected you from running into the street, bumping your head on a table, the mean kid at the playground, sticking your fingers in the electric outlet and other dangers when you were more dependent on them.
Talk to them. Let them know how you use the internet. Let them know what you do if you stumble into one of those places they don’t want you to be. If it has happened before, let them know that, and assure them that you did the right thing then and will do the right thing if it ever happens again. Let them know you respect and appreciate them wanting to keep you safe, and you would like some sort of filter to keep the bad guys and images away without limiting your access to the places you need to go.
This is a big turning point in your relationship with your parents. They are allowing you to explore computer-land. And it can be scary (for them)! Open up a line of discussion with them and keep it open so they can see how you are using it maturely and responsibly. Invite them to join BBB 😮 or another place you visit to see what it’s like; and realize there are lots of good folks out there.
And about the privacy . . . nothing on the web is private . . . for anyone. And again, this doesn’t seem like they want to spy on you or stop you from using the computer. They just love you and want to keep you safe. What’s more important than that?
PolarBearNPRParticipant😀 Am sending this on to the math teachers in my building, a few old guys who love these type of jokes, and will share it with some favorite students who should understand.
Great way to start the day WilliamLee, thanks for the grin.
PolarBearNPRParticipantBeautiful doesn’t begin to describe these amazing photos. I had seen some of them before, but – wow. A very profound way to start the day.
I think I saw my house on one of the night photos 😉
PolarBearNPRParticipantwilliamlee wrote:Surfing the forums I came upon this one and thought naw its not too late o share one of my Im stories. That’s the beauty of these types of forums! You can search to find information, saving time and redundant posts, and renew interest in interesting topics.
On one of my “group-of-moms” forums, after posting with this group for a few years, we were doing one of those get-to-know-you list things and come to find out that one of the gals and I had gone to the same elementary school (neither of us even lives in that state anymore). We don’t remember each other, but had the same memory of events at the time – so cool!
And scary stuff happens, too. Once had a person who became too friendly, had too much in common, started making me feel real uncomfortable so I never responded to her posts. That’s the best policy. If you don’t like the situation – stop posting (or block the IM or whatever).
PolarBearNPRParticipantDitto, Eggy! When I was trying to congratulate you, I had a heck of a time posting! I didn’t even see the other set of “Submit Reply” buttons (the ones below everything) and just about gave up, but really wanted to add my 2 cents. Then, I did see them after I got on another computer to try it again. I’m not sure what all I clicked or in what order, but it did eventually post.
What up wit dat?

That recipe sounds good. My mom used to make a salad dressing using miracle whip, ketchup, and a bit of pickle relish. I believe she called it french dressing and put it in a fancy cut-glass server. We thought it was special, anyway.
PolarBearNPRParticipantCongrautlations, Ryan! Since it was probably ‘my’ entry that was the one pulled for you to win, feel free to share that iPod
Honestly though, thanks for inviting me to this forum. I have enjoyed the discussions, laughter, and information even though I don’t post that often.
See – good things happen to those who do good things.
Congrats.

Thanks for the compliment though. TeaGranny’s got some good posts.
Thanks, too for your support. I am new to this forum, and forgot that it is international. Colloquialisms and puns don’t always translate the way we in the states intend. I’ll remember for next time.

PolarBearNPRParticipantYou are exactly right Sarah – but since it is a joke, I didn’t want to pin this on my favorite brand of the condiment.
And Kudo – I apologize for the offense. My Mexican students thought this was a gas. We are well aware of the historical significance of this celebration. Again, the misspelling, as mentioned by WilliamLee was purposeful and meant as a punch line . . . nothing else.
Sorry for the confusion:o

PolarBearNPRParticipantOne of my favorite SNL skits – that Will Ferrell is the best. And all the guys cracking up in the background. Sometimes my friends and I just mention, “more cowbell” and that gets us smiling.
Thanks for finding that clip! I’m forwarding it to my friends.
