I've been getting the Twitter Fail Whale with an “over capacity” message on and off this afternoon. Apparently Twitter has been getting a lot of traffic. As they say, stuff happens. It seems to be working now, but I thought I'd share a handy tip for checking the status of the Twitter servers.
Just visit http://status.twitter.com. The folks at Twitter post updates here whenever they are experiencing networking problems, over capacity issues, etc. It's a good place to go just to make sure the problem isn't with your own Internet connection.
What do you do when Twitter goes down?

Twitter is a waste of time. Who cares if it's down? Seriously.

I've been experiencing problems on and off with the OAuth servers, used when you authenticate to third party sites using your Twitter credentials. Usually it takes a few tries and they goes through, but the over capacity message has been popping up with more frequency the past couple days.

Twitter in some ways is much better than blogging. I love to Twitter my everyday activities on my friends and relatives.

I’ve been getting all kinds of issues with OAuth and just API calls in general. Hard to tell what’s going on, and it seems like their status site (on Tumblr, hahah) isn’t always on par with what’s really happening.
For checking such issues or just to see if there’s an issue:

It’s a bit intelligent in that it scans and records down time, checks the twitter cloud for large groups of people saying that “something” seems to be up…
