Long story short, I found a long list of screen names in my husband’s handwriting that look super suspicious. Is there a way that I can search some of these names in a search box somewhere to find out who they are? Some sound a little “kinky” (to say the least) and I’m afraid to just type them into any old search box and have all sorts of porn or something come up, especially since I’m at work. 🙂 How do I find out who these Yahoo screen names belong to? I’d like to be able to see profiles, too, but I’d be happy with just a real name to go with the screen name. Thanks to anyone who can help me out! BTW, love this board, it’s a huge help to geeks like me. 🙂

If you suspect that they are Yahoo! screen names, the easiest thing to do is see if they have a profile.
In the address bar of your browser, enter http://profiles.yahoo.com/[username] (replacing [username] with the suspected screen name). For example, to check my profile (reallyoldbastard) you would go to http://profiles.yahoo.com/reallyoldbastard
You should also ask him. Communication is a good thing. 🙂

That way it will only return a true / false statement whether the user is actually a yahoo account.
June 8, 2005 at 2:26 pm #123495Jeff HesterKeymasterI’m not sure of this will list all the contacts on a person’s yahoo messenger (althought it did on mine) but if you access the following:
Registry -> HKEY_Current_User -> Software -> Yahoo -> Pager -> Profiles -> “PersonsUserName” -> IMvironments -> Recent
It will then list the user names of the people that the person on the computer he has been using to chat. If you can’t reach that computer then there is really no way to check the registry.
Someone correct me if I’m wrong but this seems to work for me. It is a bit sneaky though. Like Jeff said, the best way is communication, unless he just simply avoids the subject, but I think asking first what that paper is would be a better idea than just building up suspicions. Once that lack of trust starts breaking, everything else falls as well. Just my two cents.
June 8, 2005 at 3:02 pm #123499holidoliMemberIs it posible to get info if user is having more than one profile within same account? I know my husband’s yahoo account, but i am sure he is using more than one profile.
And, yes, first what i was trying to do is to have open talk, but he refused it:crying: , telling me to check. HOW TO CHECK ?????June 8, 2005 at 9:03 pm #123502DermotParticipantWell its obviously a trust thing.
But he can easily use something other then yahoo! messenger to chat that does not log the data above.

June 10, 2005 at 2:59 pm #123503Eagle_KiwiMemberNo help to Fdny or Holi, but this might be useful here anyway…..
I find THIS page handy – when I want to check someone’s Yahoo profile (or even their Games History, which itself contains a link direct to their main profile) I just enter their Y! ID in the box provided.
It can save having to piece things together or copy/paste as Jeff described above. 🙂
June 10, 2005 at 2:59 pm #123497RabidKittenParticipantI don’t know how the heck he expects you to check without giving over his laptop *rolls eyes emphatically*
Other than stalking and looking over his shoulder every second, if he wont hand over the laptop, there isn’t a whole lot you can do but do what women do best: Nag at him until he A) Gives you a real answer or B) Lets you use the laptop.
