Is there anyway to view the profiles of the people that have AOL?
everytime I try it says “Note: AOL member profiles are not accessible through AOL Instant Messenger.”
May 30, 2004 at 3:54 pm #44495BrianMemberIf you really want to view AOL member profiles, consider getting AOL!
Non-AOL members once were able to view AOL member profiles until AOL blocked that.
May 30, 2004 at 4:44 pm #44500SushiMan92MemberI wish aim users could though. Any idea why AOL blocked the profile viewing for the AOL profiles?

They want you to buy AOL.

June 9, 2004 at 5:40 pm #44501_Max_MemberI think theres a website somewhere out there where you can view profiles for aim, aol, and some other messangers, you just enter the screenname, but it forgot what is was.
June 9, 2004 at 9:41 pm #44502XeonMemberThere is an OSCAR Packet not many people know about that allows you to request AOL Profiles, I have not yet gotton it to work with AIM though, when I try sending a request to the server it spits back an error code. But I will inform you if I do infact get the AOL Profile request packet working.

how can you obtain said OSCAR packet? Tried searching, but couldn’t find anything. 🙁
June 16, 2004 at 8:24 pm #44496CharlesMemberYou dont obtain the OSCAR packet. For those who do not know what a packet is, it is a piece of data sent across a network. An OSCAR packet would be sent from the AIM Client to the OSCAR server. In this case, sending this packet would result in the OSCAR server sending AOL Profile information.
June 16, 2004 at 8:57 pm #44499SpanawayMemberThere was one a while ago that was like http://www.profilespy.com, but I don’t believe it works anymore
September 6, 2007 at 8:40 pm #44504menaceMemberAOL is experimenting with moving its Profiles and Member Directory search on a web-based system.
You still have to be an AOL member to view Profiles (authenticated via Screen Name), but you no longer have to be using the AOL software.
http://memberdirectory.aol.com/aolus/profile?sn=adamkb
(Change the last part to see yours.)
Note that the Profile by default shows how long you’ve been an AOL member. If you’re not keen on people knowing that, hit the Settings button and uncheck the appropriate box. Well, at least that’s the way it’s supposed to work…it keeps getting reset on mine.
