I know this topic is old BUT instead of downloading anything, and wasting time, and space, just try the Online Status Indicator, just enter the email of the one you are wanting to see the status of, and if the icon shows the status of ONLINE you have your self a blocker. Simple as that!
That would work, only if the user you are trying to seek the status of has not blocked “All other users” as stated in this FAQ:
Q: Why is my status indicator for MSN showing offline?
A: Register using your full MSN userid (incl @hotmail.com etc). If necessary, check to see that you are not blocking “All other users”.
(On hosts running OSI 4.0 and earlier you need to respond to the Allow user to see my online status pop-up. This is removed in OSI 4.1 and later!)
