You shouldn’t have to worry about opening “suspicious pages”. I open every site in Firefox, without thinking to myself “could this be a virus?”. Thats what you should be able to do without the risk of being infected. I have never had anything install through Firefox at all. They have made it a point to protect against automatic installations. That’s why when you click on an xpi plug-in, it makes you wait 3 seconds so that you can’t accidentally accept something you don’t want.
I have never had a problem with any spyware installing through Firefox. There are, however, features that can be enabled which are insecure and disabled by default. So unless you’ve enabled one of these features, you shouldn’t have a problem. These features are here only for those who know that they want it regardless of the added security risk.
And as for them making improvements in SP2, this is something they should have done long ago. When SP2 hits final, I will consider whether they have actually improved the security of their browser. Until then, I’m not using IE unless its for updating Windows. They are making a step in the right direction with these new features though.
By the way, my facts are straight and other Mozilla users (even IE users) will agree with what I’m saying. Where is your information coming from? I’ve provided several links to recent articles, besides having read many other articles on this topic in the past.
