ParticipantI am justin finding out some things about Trillian Messanger and have some questions before downloading it. I enjoy both AOL and MSN 6. If I decide that I just want to be signed onto regular AIM and MSN 6 can I still do that with Trillian. And some of the neat features that comes with MSN 6, are they on Trillian as well such as emoticons and backgrounds. And anythign else that one of you thinks I should know before downloading would be greatly appreciative. Thank you so much.
God bless you,

MemberNobody here can make your mind up for you.. thats up to you and the particular features you want (not listed in your post). There is nothing to lose by downloading Trillian and trying it for yourself there is everything to gain.
All Trillian users here would I assume, recommend you to try Trillian.
Yes you can sign onto both AOL and MSN6 along with Yahoo, ICQ n IRCAugust 12, 2003 at 3:35 pm #57350Jeff Hester
KeymasterThere are many emoticons in Trillian, but to avoid copyright infringement, they’ve created their own versions, so they don’t look the same. Some of the new ones in MSN 6 aren’t in Trillian yet.
AIM buddy icons are supported by Trillian, but AIM Expressions are not. Neither are MSN 6 display pics or backgrounds.
And as rustedtight said, you can still run the regular AIM and MSN alongside Trillian, but you can only login with the same screen name in one or other other. You can either create two screen names (one for using with Trillian and another for using with AIM) or logout with one then login with the other when you want those extra features.

MemberWe’re working on the MSN6 display pics. It’s just taking a little while to decipher. Trillian Pro 2.0 does use MSNP9, the MSN Messenger 6 version of the protocol, but we haven’t yet deciphered all the new packets and suchnot. 🙂

Eh… i tried trillian for a while, i really didnt care for it at all… i use AIM and MSN, and honestly i think its actuall just easier to have both of them running. yeah i know it’d be nice to just consolidate all the IM programs into one client, but there’s drawbacks to doing that. of course it depends on how much you use each of the respective IM clients. for me, i’d prefer to just stick with what i have. I use DeadAIM to keep all my AIM convos in one box; yes trillian has this feature (sorta), but… its still up to you – its just my opinion. the best advice is what rustedtight said about just trying it yourself.

MemberTigerblade: the newest version of Trillian Pro (2.0) has proper tabbed chat, just like deadaim. But, different strokes for different folks I guess.

MemberHey Sparks, did Ceruleanstudios have to purchase a liscense from MicroShaft to be able to use the MSNP9? I was reading on the Gaim website (sort of like trillian for linux) that MS would be require it…

MemberCan’t really talk about biz stuff, I’m afraid. But suffice it to say Trillian will continue to connect to MSN. 🙂

well yeah Pro might have “proper tabbed chat” but i’m not really willing to PAY for chat just yet… especially $25. i’d sooner buy DeadAIM v4 for the measly $5 than shell out that much for Pro. i’ll deal without it. but as always, that’s only my opinion, you can decide for yourself based on your situation…
