MemberHi to all and happy holidays!!
Recently I upgraded mi internet connection to high speed DSL and the software that came with the DSL modem is incompatible with Norton internet security so i had to uninstall it.The problem is that right now I’m being bombarded with a ton of those annoying pop-up thingies. Can any of u recommend me a good pop-up blocking program??? And if it is a free one better yet.
Thanks for your attention,
Rafael{Mod Edit: Topic moved, please post in the appropriate sub-forums}

MemberIt actually sounds like something has written to your registry. Many including me have had this problem lately. Ad-Aware fixed the problem. The free one works fine, http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/ it clears what is written to you registry.

MemberUse an up-to-date browser.. IE is not being updated.
http://www.mozilla.org
All current browsers lock out pop ups, you dont need pop-up blocking for current browsers, get on the program.

MemberYeah, I use Safari, it blocks popups and has tabbed browsing (I have a Mac). IE is really bad in terms of features.

MemberIE has no ‘features’ anymore, it is not being updated and is obviously a poor choice as a browser.
I guess winning the browser war against netscape was Bills only wish, now the users can go screw themselves?
Got a reply Bill?Oh Yeah!.. for version 7?……… expect to pay for it.

MemberDefinitely Try Mozilla Firebird. Its a very good replacement for that old piece of junk IE.
It comes with a very good popup blocker, and if you need even more protection you can download an extension for it that blocks even more ads.

MemberI think MSIE6 is the best browser.. I like it the most and don’t use any others. Ugh, talk about that splash screen with Netscape…..

MemberIE6 is a terrible browser, specially from a web designers point of view. The best alternatives are Mozilla Firebird and Opera. Both of which have pop up stoppers built in as well as tab browsing. But if you insist on using IE despite all it’s flaws and exploits then I suggest using one of the many IE wrappers out there such as avant browser and IE2, all of which offer pop up stopping and more but use the IE engine to display the pages.

MemberHi to all:
First of all thanks for your input. For what i have read it’s obvious that EI is a piece of junk of a browser and that I have to update to something better. I think Opera will be the choice for me.
Thanks again,

RafaelMSIE is not a piece of junk. Besides, it doesn’t have any exploits, so stop talking about that, just update the thing from Microsoft’s website and everything is good. It’s clean, no damn splash screen (ugh), organized, customizable, and just plain good. Those are the words of Fimus. Everyone has an opinion.

ParticipantLast time I opened Mozilla Firebird, I do not believe I seen a splash screen 😉
Back to the topic. IF you want to keep IE. The google toolbar has done a great job for me. If you are looking for an all in one browser with many more features, then download Mozilla. No need to argue over personal opinions.
Just for clarification. Mozilla Firebird is not Mozilla 1.5, nor any of the Netscape browsers.

ParticipantIE is the best. Not everyone is out there looking for splash. Most are open for simpleness. If you go back and look at my poll about your favorite browser, IE wins it by far. IE6 needs no updates (ecxept thru win update when things go wrong etc), but with the google too bar, it is the worlds favotire browser, and most likely will be to come.

MemberI think we have gone into a tangent. If you want to make a topic on the best browser then you should, but right now they wanted to know about pop-up blockers and the best one hands down is the google toolbar. Its free and it took several pop-up blocker tests and it passed every one.
And also, i find IE better because it loads whole pages together, while Mozilla loads diffrent parts of it at diffrent times and has these stuped boxes:
I also found that IE loaded pictures faster…

MemberK-Meleon is a free open source browser from http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/
It has pop-up blocking built in as well as tabbed windows (layers). Ive been using it for awhile now and the program loads much faster then IE..plus all pages seem to load almost twice as fast for me… Ive got high speed, net..so its just rendering the page mostly thats faster. Best part is, if you dont like it completly..it is open source! so you can have fun with it!:) -
