KeymasterI realize to some this may appear to be a silly question, however did anyone else manage to add themselves to their google talk list? I don’t understand why it won’t allow me. I am on all my own messengers and I don’t like how I’m not able to see myself on my list. Please don’t ask why, it’s personal.

MemberI managed to do it. Only I didn’t do it directly through GT, I did it through Gaim

I agree, Amy, I too like to see “myself” on my own lists. (Then at least when times get quiet there’s always at least “him” to have a chat with 😉 )MSN and AIM both allow it, but ICQ never has. So GoogleTalk is not without precedent.

MemberSorry you have all lost me, why on earth would you need to add yourself to a messenger? Don’t see the point at all ….

KeymasterSarah some people do it just so that their contact list doesn’t appear empty if nobody is online. Some people do it so that they know that others can see them when they come on. I do it, I actually don’t know why but I like to be able to see myself online as a reassurance that I’m there. I don’t know…*shrugs* lol
As for Google talk I tried as well but to no avail. Maybe in later versions?

KeymasterMy husband thought it was strange too Sarah at 1st till he did it. Then copied me doing it on all his messengers.
For AIM when I 1st started using it back in 1998/1999 I did it as a security issue. If I had a warning I wanted to see how much, plus loads more reasons. It was at 1st because my lists were empty. Though that didn’t last long. Reaching the limit on all messengers was/is a problem, but yet my name stayed. I test things with my own name, I don’t like testing things on my friends or family. Fonts/profile/colours/away messages (to see if they are too long and or appear correctly) loads of reasons these listed are but a few as to why to do it. Though you can’t really test too many things on MSN as you can’t message yourself. But at least I can see if my name is too long and/or if someone visiting played a funny on me by changing my nick. It’s also a way to help debug things.

MemberPreviously I thought its useless to add yourself on your list but now I see the vast possibilities Amy has mentioned.
Very thoughtful indeed.

KeymasterThanks. I’d like to think God didn’t waste his gift of life on me. I try to learn and progress daily.
