MemberHi, I’ve successfully removed Wild Tangent, Weatherbug, and Viewpoint manager. How can I remove the little window in AIM that keeps showing ads that change every few seconds? It has ads like, aquarium screensavers, etc.
I saw where there is some program called aimadhack but it says that you have to be running AIM 5.9.3702 in order to use it. We are using 5.5.3595 in this house. Thanks.January 19, 2005 at 4:12 pm #112329January 19, 2005 at 6:36 pm #112319dickman
MemberThanks for the reply hotshot but your link didn’t work for me. I did some google searches and found some manual way of doing it. Not sure if its the right way or not but this is what I found. http://www.oneishy.com/aim_removeads.php

The instructions talk about editing the aim.odl file and commenting out the load_ocm advert lines. I do not have these lines in my file. Can anyone else help me get rid of the banner ADs???? thks

MemberBannerbgone is nothing but a modified aimres.dll redistributed, but it works mighty well if you just want to get rid of the ads only.
AIM Ad Hack works fine on any of the 5.5+ versions of AIM but we just don’t support it due to a few quirks in some versions when using it (file transfer status displays a bit goofed and thats about it); so thats why we put that disclaimer in there.
We’ll be releasing a new version of ad hack light that uses the same way to remove ads as the full version (the current light works the same as Bannerbgone) and it should work with the entire 5.X series (hopefully). But Bannerbgone is really the way to go right now if you want a sure thing while removing ads in 5.5.3595.

MemberOk Thanks a bunch. I just installed bannerbgone and it seems to work. Looks like it froze the last ad in the window so it still appears but at least its static. thks.

MemberOk, am I doing something wrong here? I installed bannerbgone yesterday and it seemed to work. It left one ad up there in the window but the ad did not switch over to over ones. This morning I got back on aim and the ads are back in the window just like before bannerbgone. Any ideas?

Memberif you still want to use aim ad hack, the classic version of aim ad hack listed on the website is fully compatible with 5.2.x and above…

MemberThe version for 5.2.X and above is available at:
http://home.comcast.net/~t7g/AIMAdHackLight.zipThe version you linked to is the one for just 5.2.3292.
I’m not sure if we’ll even replace the version currently on the site with the one I link to above, it works and all but people may not like the fact that the second row of buttons must be removed (bottom links toggle in newer versions).
