Hi,
I have a question that I was hoping someone could help me with. I just recently got Windows XP installed on my computer, and I have noticed that everytime I lock my PC, a default away message automatically goes up and it shows how long I am idle for. I have all of these options disabled in my settings, so I am not sure if it is something unique to XP.
Thanks!
Which AIM version are you using? Maybe if you try the new beta it might work out? I have had my default away message say “around” and I go idle, but I have seen my buddies not have any default away message and/or not go idle.
Mike
You nailed it, as far as AIM 5 is concerned. With AIM 5 and XP, the away message is an automatic “feature” when you switch users (including not logging on, but just going to the screen with the user list) or lock the computer. You can change what the automatic away message actually says, but as far as I know, you can’t disable AIM from putting one up.
If the idle time is showing, it should be disallowed when you uncheck the “allow users to see how long I’m idle” option in the privacy preferences. When you open up the preferences, it’s the second item on the list on the left-hand side.
So, as nyywrldchamps asked–what specific version of AIM are you using? 5.9.3861, 5.5.3599, 6.1.32.1?
